Yeah it’s nice to celebrate us all, every one of us from different places.
It will be fun to try and guess what country it is when we don’t recognise one.

Boring-ass flags for boring-ass cuntries if you ask me. And yes, I spelled cuntry correctly.
It gets worse - some have just 2 stripes!!
In fact some have just one colour all over.
Problem is, there are approx 200 countries yet there are only 5 or 6 colours to play with, so designers have to be very creative, to make the flags look distinct from each other. The flags of holland & luxemburg are suspicious similar, ditto the flags of ireland & india!!
The other problem is that there is no good synonym for flag so you have to keep repeating the same word over and over in your posts.

I'll just take some inspiration from the famous actor, Anthony Flags. Sorry, Antonio Banderas.
I'll refer to flags as banderas whenever I get bored of the word "flag" or just feel like breaking out my Spanish and saying "bandera."

Re: Nice flag...
The British Union Jack flag was designed to incorporate three separate flags from surrounding kingdoms.
The Union Jack flag of England is a very recognizable flag to most of the world. If fact, back in the colonial days it used to fly in the United States before the 13 colonies declared independence. Once the colonies did that, they soon designed and created their own flag with the stars and stripes design.
Do you know where the design inspiration originated from for the Union Jack Flag? Here is a little history on the infamous flag and from where exactly the British pulled the colors and design.
The current British flag is a combination of three heraldic crosses from England, Scotland, and Ireland. However, since 1921 only Northern Ireland has been included in the flag. The three crosses are:
The Red Cross of St. George
The Blue and White Saltire of St. Andrew
The Red and White Saltire of St. Patrick
The origins of this historic flag date all the way back to 1603. Scotland is represented by the flag blue and white flag of St. Andrew. The flag is comprised of a blue background with a diagonal white cross filling the entire flag.
Blue St. Andrew Flag of Scotland
Ireland (today, only the Northern part) contributes to the current Union Jack flag with St. Patrick’s Saltire. Their flag is a white field with a diagonal red cross that covers the entire flag.
St. Patrick Flag of Ireland
St. George’s cross comes from England. This flag is made up of a white background with a red standard cross. If you are wondering about Wales, it is not included since it is a principality and not a kingdom. For that reason it could not be included in the British Union Jack flag. The Wales flag includes a red dragon on a white and green background.
St. George Flag of England
When you combine all three of those flags you get the 1606 version of the Union Jack flag. One small revision was made in 1801: four additional smaller red diagonal stripes were added. Since then, Great Britain has flown the same Union Jack flag.

Today, a few other world flags still incorporate the Union Jack Flag into their design. These 2 country flags are Australia and New Zealand. Click on the links to check out what those flag look like!

It's just a publication I remember seeing, so I brought it over. It's called History of the British Union Jack Flag | United Kingdom Flag. Is there a difference between the two?

I don't think you are wrong. I'm just curious about all of the history of it. Google gives several answers:
Whether to use "Union Flag" or "Union Jack" is a matter of debate. The Flag Institute, the vexillological organisation for the United Kingdom, stated that the term Union Flag is a "relatively recent idea". Jack was a word previously used to denote any flag. It also noted that "From early in its life the Admiralty itself frequently referred to the flag as the Union Jack.
When the ‘Union Jack’ was first introduced in 1606, it was known simply as ‘the British flag’ or ‘the flag of Britain’, and was ordered to be flown at the main masthead of all ships, warships and merchant ships, of both England and Scotland.
Best Answer: No difference, the Union Flag is also known as the Union Jack, it is the name of national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
What is commonly known as the Union Jack, the flag of the United Kingdom, is actually only called the Union Jack when it is flown on the jackstaff on the bow of a Royal Naval ship.
The Union Jack is let to fly on the ships also on sea but the Union Flag is let to fly on Land. That is the difference between the two two flags. Hope this Helps.
Wiki gives the best answer, I think:
Wiki wrote:The national flag of the United Kingdom is the Union Jack, also known as the Union Flag.
The current design of the Union Jack dates from the union of Ireland and Great Britain in 1801. It consists of the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), edged in white, superimposed on the Cross of St Patrick (patron saint of Ireland), which are superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland). Wales is not represented in the Union Flag by Wales's patron saint, Saint David, as at the time the flag was designed Wales was part of the Kingdom of England.
The flag's standard height-to-length proportions are 1:2. The war flag variant used by the British Army modifies the proportions to 3:5 and crops two of the red diagonals.
The earlier flag of Great Britain was established in 1606 by a proclamation of King James VI and I of Scotland and England. The new flag of the United Kingdom was officially created by an Order in Council of 1801, reading as follows:
The Union Flag shall be azure, the Crosses saltire of Saint Andrew and Saint Patrick quarterly per saltire, counter-changed, argent and gules, the latter fimbriated of the second, surmounted by the Cross of Saint George of the third fimbriated as the saltire.

And the reason Wales isn't represented on the Union Flag is because it's a fucking dragon that my six-year-old stepdaughter could have drawn better Wales was part of the Kingdom of England when the Union Flag was created.

Wolfie, for colour and pride. Do you know what was the original purpose of a countries flag ? If was if there was a point in a battle that if one of the sides was losing men, it was a place that the remainder could go to fight with their comrades . Hence the cry, "rally round the flag boys".!

A lot more interesting then the previous one
A lot more going on it, it like it contains everything the old one had plus some symbolic stars (the 'national' star and the southern cross constellation)

That's why the Aussie and Kiwi flags are better
they look almost the same... even without the heat of battle
so we have a 'back up' flag to go to if we can't see our own
Plus the ANZAC code means we can fight under each others flags with pride.

It is really a nice flag though. But I do wonder why Australia keeps the Union Flag up there. While I like the reminder of our past 'closeness' and all that, it seems a bit dated to me for two entirely independent nations to continue to have the flag of another within their own.

Colonialism is a big part of our history, for better or worse
I'd like to see it's current location replaced with the Aboriginal flag
but I'd probably replace the national star with a smaller union jack a similar size to the star
since the blue merges in anyway and the national star is meaningless
I was actually thinking that Aussies are far less patriotic about their flag than American or British
Probably because it is still the 'colonial' flag, same with the kiwis
But both of us have different emblems and national colours to the flag that we are patriotic to
Aussies to Green and gold and Kiwis to black and white
So the whole red white and blue thing doesn't carry over for us which may also be part of it
We both also have unique animal logos, we are skippy and kiwi after all
So the 'flag allegiance' is further down the list, we're just as happy with a boxing kangaroo

The boxing kangaroo makes he Welsh Flag seem positively classy tbf
I think pride in a flag has a lot to do with its meaning in history tbf.
For Americans their flag is all about standing against tyranny and becoming independent. A pretty powerful message. The Union Flag too, to a great extent, remains steeped in the memory of a world spanning empire and a symbol of defiance against Napoleon and Hitler when most the continent failed (that same sentimentality is at least part of the reason for the Brexit BS too).

The "Boxing kangaroo" is a commercialised/advertising emblem, commonly used by sporting groups in international competition...
Made famous by the 'controversial'/infamous corporate raider and "white collar crim'" Alan Bond, who sponsored an Americas Cup winning yacht back in the 1980s..

Like with veya, I too would be happy enough to see the Union Jack replaced with the Aboriginal colours in that corner of the Aussie flag...
