China's training to attack the United States and allies, Pentagon says

Washington (CNN)China is actively developing its fleet of long-range bombers and "likely" training its pilots for missions targeting the US, according to a new Pentagon report.

"Over the last three years, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has rapidly expanded its overwater bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and likely training for strikes against US and allied targets," the report said.

The "Annual Report on Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China" is a US government report mandated by Congress, which details Chinese military developments over the previous year.

This year's report also claims that China is pursuing a nuclear capability on its long-range bombers, saying the Chinese air force "has been re-assigned a nuclear mission."

Makes little sense to me, unless this would be about surging into the top spot in the world economy.

Perhaps. If China has been watching Putin's campaign to destabilize the West, it might well have concluded that it needs to be ready to handle war-minded Western leaders.

Iraq didn't pick on us, Russia rigged our election to benefit itself and China's training to attack us and our allies. Not sure what point you're trying to make other than, maybe the Pentagon's trying to lie us into war with China?

Think about it, Eddie. Had this country "prepared for war" and had sufficient squadrons of Spitfires and Hurricanes and air fleets of Lancaster bombers at operational readiness in 1940, Hitler and Goering would never have dared to launch what was to become the Battle of Britain.

As it was, we had just sufficient fighter aircraft and the necessary ground support available to scrape through until September 15th 1940 for us to be able to claim victory...and an important turning point in WW2.

Why bother won't they overtake everyone in economic terms in the near future or is that India or both?

One thing Chamberlain did get right, was how he provided the funds for the expanison and how that money was spent on fighters. The Spitfire would never have come into play, without the funds he set aside for the RAF

Its one factor that people often miss, when rightly they cast him as an appeaser to Hitler in 1938

His policies did ensure, we did have a an advanced and growing better equiped RAF for the battle of Britain. Without this, we would have lost the Battle of Britain

Now I know we could both argue that Goring was more of the cause to why the Luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain, but credit is due here to Chamberlain. With how he set up the means to advance the RAF mate

Though i will concede, that had the Uk acted earlier to the reoccupation of the Rhineland. Then Hitler would have been screwed. Hilter called and played many poker hands and the west. In fear of WW2 casulaties, played into his hands

I still think Chamberlain was an appeaser, but he did help the cause with the money set aside for fighter technology and manufacture
