Awwww...OH is depressed now.
But....England did really well to reach the semis, and they gave us a good match tonight.
Good luck to Croatia in the final anyway.

Absolutely. Firstly, they’ve never won before and secondly, I’d rather they beat us and then went on to win.

Exactly, to lose to the overall winners seems better somehow.
In any case, they played a clean game compared to some of the other teams.
Hark at me....I dont usually watch football.

We were all watching it, my daughter made English flags and I shouted a lot.
Ben made me have a beer to calm me down.

I hate football
I hate the ethos of it. The aggression is causes, the obscene amounts of money the players earn, the way the public gets ripped off by the entry fees and merchandise.
The bald fact is...England have never been good enough to win. 50 odd years since they won? Come on.

I agree that many footballers are primadoners. They well over paid, the likes of Beckham, Ronaldo and Rooney as examples.
This team however played together. They are a new team, no one out shone the other.
We must give them a chance and see how they go in the Euros before condemning them.

All the weeping and wailing is just silly. It's a bloody game not life or death. In fact, it ceased being a real game a long time ago. Now, it's a business. A business geared up for making as much money as possible from the suckers who pay to watch it.

Domestic games are all about money and this has ruined football.
But international games are about pride and striving for excellence - and they preserve their integrity.
Well done to England. We have done better than any England squad since 1990.
Sadly we haven't won the cup - but my God we came AGONISINGLY close.
Respect! And thanks for the memories, boys!

Re: Good luck England!
I dislike most present day sport, as you say Horatio, its all about the money now. Our family used to watch football or rugby every Saturday afternoon but I think the last football match I watched in full was the 1966 world cup one. Wimbledon when Yvonne Goolagong won etc, now its all egos, business and money. Rugby is becoming more like American football, no offence but I can't see the point of it, my loss I expect, gone are the glory days when you didn't have to be 6'5" and 18 stone to play.

I like Rugby, but sadly the players are turning into wimps, they seem to have taken up the Footballers ideas of chasing scoring players around the pitch and begging for a hug and a kiss, and whats the idea of piling on to scorers in a heap, someones going to get injured doing that ! In my day "many, many years ago" a player who scored was rewarded with a polite hand clap. The way things are going there'll be full on intercourse soon !

We corrected British spelling back in Roosevelt's day. It's color, not colour, and labor, not labour. <^Look here, at the red underline...the British version in each case turns up incorrect.

I was rooting for Croatia a bit, but France were very good. Two goals would often be enough to win a match, but not for Croatia.

Re: Good luck England!
I'm calling England the favorite to win in Qatar, and that seems fairly obvious. Weren't they the youngest side to make the final four?
Croatia perhaps has a little room for improvement, but I don't see the same from France or Belgium. They're the best they're going to be.
But England's going to come back with four more years of seasoning and half the squad still under 30.
