Sounds like he just lost it for some reason. Maybe if he hadn't been killed, he would have been in torment for ever for what he did. Horrible situation all round.

So many cases of such violent reactions to sometimes very normal situations it makes you wonder if there is some underlying problem with peoples mental balance.

Yes. Luke's mother said that he loved Luke, and she also said that his life was falling apart, but goodness knows what triggered off such a brutal attack.

I guess people will blame, tv, movies, games but is it something in the food or the stress of just surviving these days money wise.

 

IN A lot of cases like this ~ where the father obviously had mental health problems, and seems to have completely lost the plot yesterday ~ there is never anything positive or practical to be gained by asking "Why did he do that ?" or questions without answers such as "What is happening?"  

Where all that happens is that people end up in circular arguments and endless debates that end up going nowhere,and not providing any real "answers"..

I THINK that in situations like this, better questions could be "HOW was this allowed to happen ?" and "WHAT could be done to reduce incidents such as this in the future ?"

P.S.  As an aside, I know parts of the Central Coast region pretty well ~ having previously worked down around there; rock climbed and body-surfed in some areas; and I have a couple of apiary sites on  orchards up in the hills inland from there.. It's roughly 45 -> 75 kms South of here..

Do you think that the way society deals wit things, such as it's dangerous make it illegal, just causes greater problems and more things to take away, isn't finding a way to teach people to behave responsibly or face the consequences much better..

There's no information as to why he was there, or what happened before the killing. It sounds like a huge outpouring of rage of some kind, but one would need to know more about this man's life really. It's not at all clear that anyone could have foreseen what would happen.

very true, the idea that we cold have a plan for every possible rage situation is ridiculous and a waste of time, effort and resources..

I DO think that those issues ~ cotton woolling, cacooning, helicopter parenting, pandering to the "nervous Nellies" and"big girly men"; and then making anything in the least dangerous "illegal" or "banned" ~ has indeed had some quite negative effects on our modern society...

WE are seeing the results in so many ways: people not willing to accept responsibility for their actions anymore; X and Y gen. brats who left school believing they are 'so special' and gentically-gifted with all the knowledge of the universe; AND then the negative results are shown with recent knee-jerk reactions to shark attacks, some people who want every cliff or highway fenced off..      


   HOWEVER, I also don't yet see those factors st work here in this particular tragedy ~ I would consider the more important issues to be such things as ~ mental health services, government cutbacks (a worldwide  problem..) in supporting such services, why the father was apparently free to wander the streets..

AND to complicate matters further ~ on news interviews tonight, the mother has stated that nobody saw this coming, and that the father's actions yesterday were completely unexpected.

My earlier mention on the "Central Coast" is in reference to links I saw about the father ~ and not with the killing itself..

(I reckon that could confuse any other comments I make here ~ so I deleted those comments as being irrelevant to this discussion..).

Not all the story is out and may not come out. but it seems they may have been custody disputes, the father already had a warrant for failure to attend court regarding an assault on the mother.  ::dunno::  Doesn't sound like it was a 'happy family'

  AND THEN, matters for the Victorian Police service were exacerbated further on Friday/Saturday ~ with admissions that "glitches" in their state-wide computer network means that police aren't always being given up to date information on suspects and crim's; with news on outstanding warrants taking up to 2 weeks to be posted !

TURNS OUT the father had up to FIVE warrants out against him (inc. some relatively minor matters, such as disturbing the peace, or not keeping to AVO conditions) - with a couple of them going back to a couple of months before Christmas..

AND further complicated by his transient lifestyle and behaviour...


   WITH regards to the Vic. Police's bad computer network ~ I've seen increasing occurrences where the upgrading of such large scale and critical computer systems are causing problems because so many gov' departments, big businesses and operators are trying to use a 'turn-key' All In - All Out approach to installing the new computer systems (turning off the old system at the same time as the new one is fired up ~ with "wildcat" teams of contractor Systems Analysts and Programmers at call to jump on problems as they arise..).

INSTEAD of sticking to the traditional "tried and trusted" old school procedures ~ where the old computer network is kept running in parallel with the new system. Until, at least, many of the
glitches and bugs have been identified, and when any unexpected crashes occur they still have
the pre-existing system to back them up !  

ALL in the name of "cost cutting"..

working in gov't IT i can say it does take a lot of ingenuity and dedication on behalf of a lot a people to get the systems needed in place with the budget constraints and stupidity imposed by politicians. But a lot of that it the fault of the voter and media too.

Politician are a highly reactive creature with almost no understanding of reality  :::grouch::  they get scared when the people start jabbering after the media gets gets negative (and with the 24hr news cycle most of the time it is just, they got nothing better to talk about so they make something up    )

It only takes a bad manager for everything to go pear shaped, and that was quite possibly the case in Victoria (I don't know, the details of that system)

I absolutely agree. I wonder if there's something in our air or water sometimes.....

more has come out it was not out of no where, there is a long histroy of domestic viloence and mental illness. the father has recently become homeless in part due to the deteriation of his mental condition.
