Amazon among retailers criticised over fur mis-selling
Online stores, including Amazon and Not On The High Street, have been told they must do more to stop the sale of fake fur products that contain animal fur.
MPs on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee said several websites showed a "real lack of concern" if they were notified of vendors mis-selling.
Amazon told MPs it had operated a "no fur" policy since 2014 and had barred 300,000 products that contained fur.
Not On The High Street said it was sorry fur had been mis-sold.
Committee chairman Neil Parish said UK consumers "deserve to know" what they are buying online - and called on retailers to take "greater responsibility".
The committee heard that many major retailers had no policies for contacting Trading Standards when they found vendors were knowingly or unknowingly mis-selling fur.
It launched its inquiry into real fur being sold as fake fur in February after a spate of cases in High Street shops - Tesco, Fatface and Boots among them.
Last year, fashion retailer Missguided was found to be selling pink fluffy shoes that contained cat fur, prompting it to launch an internal investigation.
Fur farming has been banned in the UK since 2000, but imports of fur from some animals, such as fox, rabbit and mink, are permitted under tight controls.

"Fur farming has been banned in the UK since 2000..."
Just don't tell those farmers still growing and raising their rabbits, minks, goats and sheep for their skins, that apparently they don't really exist any more..
Sounds like PETA has infiltrated the British guvm'nt these days ?

Re: Amazon among retailers criticised over fur mis-selling
There's no reason for anyone to wear real fur these days. There's plenty of materials that can be worn instead.
I hate to think of animals killed and skinned for their fur. In Korea they don't bother to kill them first, they skin dogs alive or boil them and other animals alive. Sick bastards!

I've been banging on about this for years. Ebay are the worst offenders.

I bought some fax fur mittens, against my better judgement, when they arrived it was obvious it wasn't faux fur just by looking at it, when I checked more closley, although it was only a very small piece of trim, it was obviously hide. They were made in China, a place of potential absolute and unmitigated horror if you happen to be an animal.

Re: Amazon among retailers criticised over fur mis-selling
During the 19th century some enterprising Kiwis imported some Aussie possums into New Zealand in an endeavour to set up their own fur production business...
When their plans failed to gain traction, instead of culling their stock, they instead set them free to roam wild across the countryside.. With no natural predators, those randy li'l marsupials just kept on breeding and breeding and breeding, until these days there are some healthy populations of feral possums, lining up to be culled.
Some resourceful 'furriers' these days have profitable sidelines manufacturing possum fur items -- willy warmers, nipple warmers, g-strings, socks and mittens :
