Yes it does.  But it's Ohio River Valley (Appalachian) music not Texas/Oklahoma, or Red River Valley. It's sped up to a Texas two-step tempo, but it's the same progression. I'm surprised.  Take a listen for comparison, particularly the chorus:

I like Reddy's cover on the song.  But I was not playing my favorite, but showing the Appalachian influence in music.  When I was a studio guitarist in LA one of my passions was ethno-musicology.

The Tucker version shows the roots of that kind of music.  Listen to the Carter Family verson of Lil Darlin' Pal o' Mine--which is the core of This Land is Your Land.  You'll see the primitive roots of western, and ultimately rock music:



As I say, Boland and the Stragglers are playing the same melody as Delta Dawn, but with different lyrics and to a Texas two-step beat.  And note the Jazz chords coming out of your right speaker...so totally western swing.  Reddy's cover of Delta Dawn is the same song, however to a Rock-a-billy beat (steady bass drum, R&B riffs, piano, etc.).

These are basically Irish tunes, adapted to American styles and lyrics.  The Irish originally settled in the Appalachian Mountains region, and the music became known as Ohio River Valley music because the Ohio River begins, and runs right through that region.



The music, originally fiddle and dance music, was adapted to 5-string banjo, guitar, drums, slide-guitar, and other southern/western influences.  Fun stuff as a hobby.

These are all brilliant....its the world we now live in, and I have seen quite a few No 7,s this last week or so....very scary.
