Well most of my family are Catholic Tories.

Ironic this coming from someone obsessed with Trump since his election eh?

Both mothers were the typical working class welsh mams, totally in charge and worked like trojans, at home, to give their children the best start they could.  Strict when required but loving and telling it like it is.
My brothers and sister got locked out for not coming home on time, I got it a bit easier due to their experience and changing times, I just got a thorough telling off, I never had to sleep in the outdoor toilet . My brother brought his fiance home, she slept in his bedroom, he slept on the sofa, even though they'd lived together for six months, elsewhere, out of respect for my mother. Some people may think that hypocritical, I call it thoughtful.

I call it normal. It was your mother's house, so people should behave as she would like.

I agree Rags, many abided those rules too. Being locked out is harsh, but maybe she was making a point or they'd done it once too many.

Sorry for messing up your nice thread Magica, I only told the story to show how much our parents were respected and loved, it was the 1950's. I won't expand anymore I have no wish to make it worse.

My daughter will be visiting to put a lovely bouquet of flowers on her mum's grave, as she does every year, and - again, as every year - they will last about 12 hours before being eaten by hungry deer...because my late wife is buried in the woods near the house and there's not a lot other than some tasty roses, lilies or chrysanths to give a Muntjac or Chinese water deer a good meal at this time of year.

I hasten to add that there was absolutely nothing criminally suspicious about my wife being buried in a wood; it was her last request and the wood is our last remaining part of the former family estate.

Naturally, a bumptious little Standartenfuhrer from the local council raised all sorts of objections, but I'd done my research and reducing him to a spluttering wreck at least provided a humorously satisfying moment at an otherwise very sad time.

Don't be silly hun, you speak as much as you like, that's why I did this thread. Your mum and dad sound so lovely and yes rules were rules, did us no harm eh? You haven't spoiled anything x

Oh what a lovely place for her last resting place. I bet she loved all the greenery, what a lovely story.

Yes, it's a beautiful place and within sight of her old family home where she grew up.

It's also fairly inaccessible, and because she did not want to be cremated but to be buried in a wicker coffin we had to take her to her last resting place on a trailer hauled by a tractor. As an ex-farmer she would have loved it.

To my best friend

Thank you for being the only person in the world who has never let me down.

The only person who can pick me up when I'm at my lowest.

The person who has built me up and given me strength to overcome anything life throws at me.

You're the most inspiring, motivational, loving and hardworking woman on the planet and I'm the luckiest girl in the world to have you as a mum and a best friend.

You're the only person in the world I can tell my darkest secrets to wthout judgement and I love you for it.

You're the queen in my life and I'd be so lost without you by my side

Happy Mother's Day to the best Mum in the world, my best friend, my soul mate always.

Your bean

xxxxx

aw, thanks - we had a day out in london last summer and she took a picture of us and then enlarged it and had it put in a lovely frame and put the letter in the back. I think I must have had an allergic reaction to the ink or something cos my eyes were streaming

my sons got me a card and some flowers and a box of celebration chocolates

when i got home they presented them to me and got me a cup of tea and a hug and got me my slippers and told me to have a chocolate

i took a few of them out to have with my tea then the boys dug right into them and must''ve scoffed about half of the box between them both

ffs!!!

lol!

hope every mum on here had a great day

x
