'This right here is called parenting': Father makes his son run a mile in the rain to school after he was banned from the bus for bullying
A father punished his son by making him walk to school after finding out he was bullying people on the school bus.
Bryan Thornhill took a video from inside his car of his 10-year-old son running outside in the rain.
He started the video by saying 'Hey everyone, welcome to you better listen to your Dad 2018. My son has finally got in trouble on the bus enough to where he was kicked off the bus for three days because he was being a little bully which I do not tolerate, can't stand.'
'Therefore, he has to now run to school, we're right about one mile from the school so all week he's got the experience of running.'
Despite Thornhill punishing his son, he also saw the humor in his disciplinary ways. 'The good news is guys he keeps up a pretty good mile pace, 6 miles and hour so far. Yesterday he was apparently a little rude for Michelle in the morning, so even though it's raining this morning he still gets to run.'
'I just wanted to show everybody and give you a good little laugh,' Thornhill said.
Apparently the punishment has been working as he claims his son's behavior has 'been much better', and that his 'teacher's have approved of his behavior this week.'
Thornhill added 'he hasn't got in trouble at school this week, whereas last week he was absolutely out of his mind. This right here is called parenting.'
The father was adamant that his son would learn from this. 'We're gonna make sure that one way or another his teacher's are gonna be able to enjoy his company at school, he's not disrupting his classmates and everything else.'
He finished the video with 'Teach your kids, don't be a friend, be a parent. That's what children need these days.'

Bullying is a learned thing, and usually stems from being bullied...although I have read that it's also inherited genetically. I don't like the look of this guy. I can imagine his kid is learning from association.
There's something about this kind of punishment that smacks of bullying in itself. I should think more effective to try to get the kid to learn about compassion.

Interesting theory. What is your definition of bullying?

Powerplays. Intimidation. Suppression. Physical abuse. Psychological control. Usually defined as repeated behaviour which is intended to hurt someone either emotionally or physically. The list is endless but always negative.

Haha...sounds like Republicans. I ask because I've yet to see a clear definition, despite all the talk about bullying these days. Unfortunately, your list is of synonyms, not core ideas. But I like your idea that it is associated with hurt, and negativity.
I think bullying is situational, and not universal. I think we enter a situation and view two people arguing, but our estimation of who is the bully and who is not depends on our ultimate feelings about the underlying dispute. Most often it's politics. RW'ers like to fancy themselves stalwart and strong, but they rarely see themselves as bullies. Somehow, the concept of bully always comes back to relativism.
I mention politics merely as an example (the most common on the Internet) of where dispute/bullying comes up. I realize it's not the core of the idea. But, I think your thesis is nearer to the truth: that it is more a style, than 'right/wrong' or the 'truth', and as a style it is related to traits passed from parent to child. As such, it's an acquired strategy (style) in response to a given situation; and the stratagum is related to experienced behavior...ie, parental teaching or pattern making.

It's sounds like statists.
They are all about force.
As for this kid, it's not a bad punishment. I approve.

I wouldn’t have videoed it, I think that’s where the father loses his point because his initial point of the boy making his own way to school, I agree with.
The boy gets kicked off the bus for something horrid, so rather than a parent dropping him to school, he gets made to walk there (not sure I understand the “running” thing).
I think that’s a good thing to make the child do.
However, videoing it is all about the father stroking his own ego and that kind of negates his whole “I’m a great parent” speech.

Bullying is something all living things do to a degree. You see it with animals too. There are degrees of it, and levels of cruelty from teasing to outright sadism. When kids are allowed to think it's normal and a virtue, then you either allow that to continue until one day they find someone stronger and more aggressive than them who'll whack them one, or you nip it in the bud.
As Eddie says, making the child walk is good. Making him run in the rain and filming it....that just humiliates the child and makes the father look like an egotistical twat, which is what I actually think he is. It's my bet the father is doing this not so much to punish his child but to be seen to punish his child within the community....the good father.

Running is a form of punishment in athletics. That's probably where dad got it. When I coached soccer I made the girls run when they were acting up.

I like what HT said.
So, what is your definition of bullying? Force is what the US did to Japan at the end of WWII, only they called it 'unconditional surrender'. Were we (US) bullies, or retaliators?

Maybe the son has learned his bullying ways off his father.
He is right to not allow the lads behaviour to continue, but there are better ways than posting this on social media laughing at, and urging others to laugh at his son.
That's classic bullying imo.

The US met force with force. It's called self defense.Original Quill wrote:Maddog wrote:

Is this really that complicated?

the Dads a Bullying Twat
He films it and posts it saying "welcome to you better listen to your Dad 2018."
Which clearly demonstrates this is more about Him Feeling like a 'big man' then educating the kid and the Whole I Don't like Bullies So I'll Be a bigger Bully to you when dealing with a child is Pathetic.
Yes, can Almost Guarantee that the Kid was only Emulating his fathers Behaviour
