I think youve read too many bad articles or watched too many cliche films! I have no idea why so many women think men are like that?

I have known plenty men like that, (not intimately thankfully) some women too, but not nearly as many.

Seriously, you haven't noticed throughout life that SOME men are more interested in bedding women than having meaningful relationships? I don't think I have come to this conclusion through reading Mills and Boon and Jackie Collins....probably more from working in clubs and bars for a couple of decades.

In one sense, I guess I grew up. But always have a had a certain moral compass. I wouldn't have ran around on any girl I was married to, or even in a serious relationship with, even at a young age. But If I was single, my moral compass didn't consider being a the village Tomcat to be an infraction.

I was miserable the last few years of my marriage, but my antiquated sense of duty, honor and oaths made me stick around. That, and the thought of some other guy raising my girls was just not acceptable to me.

Thankfully, somehow or another, my daughters have learned something and have made excellent selections in their mates, which I like to think is somewhat a result of them seeing their parents miserable and trying to make something that wont ever work, work. Sometimes, kids learn from their parents mistakes.

It's evolution. A lot of men are evolutionary wired to spread their seed, so to speak, since men can father hundreds of children a year, while a woman can only give birth to one or two per year.

But I think we're entering a new phase of human evolution in which some men are as selective about their partners as women are. To men like that, a partner who doesn't engage them at a much deeper level might as well be a sex doll -- just a more sophisticated form of masturbation, really.

When you are young and single you can do as you please as long as you're honest with people.

I think a lot of marrieds or long term partnerships stay together out of duty, and not least as you say, because you have children and you wanted to be the one to raise them. I have seen this from both sides, you are lucky if everything runs smoothly after another man (or less often a woman) gets to take over the family....or that's what it can often seem like to the ousted parent.

Kids are resilient.....I was from a split home, but it didn't affect me much, as long as kids are loved they thrive. x
