Why? There have been very many occasions when local authority elections have swung strongly against the national ruling party. It's a traditional way of an electorate showing its displeasure with Westminster.

Any reasonably intelligent person might well be forgiven for assuming that your own use in your own thread and post of the first person singular in the words "...I suspect May will be forced to stand down if this happens..." signifies the expression of your own opinion, particularly in a forum which exists specifically for the purpose of expressing and discussing, er, opinions.

I had no need to "research" my answer, particularly since I had probably read the article in MailOnline before you did, and since I was simply stating known facts about the electoral system and history.

I never worked as a "hack at a local freebie" but had I done so I would have been quite proud of the fact, because small local weekly newspapers, freebie or not, and their "hacks" perform a vital service in a community, even though some pretentious, self opinionated elitist snob like you might not think they have any social worth or deserve respect.

Setting aside the semantics of actual percentages, I'm trying to get to grips with this somewhat curious idea that simply pointing out or even implying that towns and cities with very large Muslim populations tend to return Labour MPs and councillors in parliamentary and local elections is somehow "racist."

It's something that Basil Fawlty might well describe as a "statement of the bleedin' obvious", given the political geography of Britain.

As someone who lives in a rural constituency in the Home Counties, should I regard as "racist" the frequently quoted taunt of people like Andy that if Little Noddy should stand as a Tory candidate, we predominantly white electors would automatically vote for him?

Personally, I would take serious offence at such a "racist" remark.

I've just seen this, Andy, and hope that you don't regard my previous comment as a personal insult; it's just that I have strong feelings about the word "racist" and its serious connotations being demeaned by over and unthinking use in forums such as this.
