US Government shut down.
BTW, The handful of us that live here in the US are facing a cataclysmic event.
With the government shut down, our very survival is in question. If this is one of my last posts, I want to give my regards to the forum and express my gratitude for the kindness displayed towards me.

It's of no importance. A government shut-down only closes down the Military.
That's a good thing, right?

Exactly. Mind you had a long, busy day at work so I’ll probably be asleep when the apocalypse rolls round. Take notes, so you can brief me in the morning. If we’re still here that is.
Good luck!

So naive
We need the US to be a counter balance to Totalitarian super power states
I mean people like you Quill seriously do not live in the real world
This proxy war has been going on since the second World War and in reality, this military spending has prevented any further world wars. As the realty is, there is Totalitarian nations. That without the US puting them in check, would take advantage. We have already seen them try to be underhanded, by influencing fake news.
This is why you are naive, as the realityis neither Russia or China can face the US militarilly and thus tries to undermine its people and sadly its working. They want to have their own way and influence many countries and they are succeding. The US military capabilities is the last line of defense against this.

Our safety has not been in jeopardy since Attu Island in 1943. It's all so boring. Is there anything else to say? If not, I'm going to go to sleep.

That is because you have no conception of what a threat is
Shall we talk about the Cuban missle crisis?
Do you think people were bored or saw this as a real threat?

Well the problem here is that you have never face real fear.

Or did millions die at their hands?

Yeah, the US is strong and invincible. They were walk-overs. Anyway...it's not our problem.

Are they?
How many wars have they lost?
Humanity problems are your problem, because we are all one family. Just as it is when we care for all animals
You just have a selfish nature that could not survive without the help of others
If everyone took your view, you would be helpless in a situation of disaster
It actually shows that humans actually need to pool together to help each other

I agree if you are the representative of America..
As seen, many Americans though do give a fuck
America is just a social construct and you yourself would be fucked without the help of others
So the question to ask yourself Quil is this.
Do you only care about yourself, or those you leave behind you?

Those are correctable errors. Frankly, I've never seen AT&T or General Motors being very provident...especially, given that they have the added burden of profit.
But if your answer is 'NO', you've got to hold the line.

The only thing that will affect the military is their pay on February 1st if this shutdown lasts as long as that.
Federal employees will not have to go to work and more than likely, as proved historically, they will be given their back pay after it’s been resolved.
National parks and monuments will be open, but no toilet facilities, no snack rooms, no park rangers to advise or guide etc...
That’s about it for now.

You seem to have lost the point. The dichotomy is between government and corporate capitalism.
The Republicans have no offer to move anything along. All they offer is three more weeks, whereupon we'll be right back where we are now...with Republicans asking for three more weeks.
I say everybody go home, lock the capital doors, and come back in six months and see if anybody has changed his or her mind. If not, go home for another six months.
Look, I've bought and sold lots of real estate, and sometimes you can't do the deal. Maybe the disagreement is over the value difference; maybe the parties just don't like each other. You've got to leave open the possibility that the deal can never be done. Let the voters deal with the impasse come this November.
In the meantime, have a pool party.

Re: US Government shut down.
I think the Republicans fail to see the significance of the shut-down. Anytime we see the United States failing, we see the increased viability of the Pacific States of America (PSA).
The PSA represents the remnants of the original USA. We are not a new movement, but the old values carrying through.
The United States is failing. Long live the shut-down, which proves the necessity for a survival entity. The PSA will survive. Let it happen.

You can sure as shit buy you some new Firestone tires for that Ford Explorer of yours, now can't you? And if you don't know that story, let me tell you all about the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire! Hell, they even wrote a song about that one.
If you want the TLDR on that, it's that corporations have so much money that human life doesn't matter. Pick a side, compadre.

Well, Failing Cheeto-Faced Ferret-Wearing Shit Gibbon told the Democrats in Congress to send him a bill and he would sign it. They did and he refused to sign it, so, Trump is solely responsible for the shutdown.

Re: US Government shut down.
It's incredible how dumb the Republicans think the people are. Here are the facts:
1. Republicans hold all three branches of government, including both Houses of Congress, yet they can't manage a simple thing like a budget;
2. Republicans claim that the Democrats are to blame because the Senate requires 60 votes on budget matters and they only have 51 Republican senators;
3. But, what they don't tell the people is that 5 Republican senators also voted against the budget, so it's all on their shoulders;
It finally fell to pussy-grabber, what the answer is. Change the 60-vote rule. They've got a majority in the Senate, put up that question. They did it for Supreme Court approvals. They have the majority, they can do whatever they want.
The Republicans don't want DACA, even though 80% of the public is in favor of it. The reason they don't want DACA is because Hispanics vote Democratic. The Republicans don't want them as voters.

Just out this morning...Washington Post/ABC poll. But the popularity of fixing DACA has been on-going for about a year. It is asked about almost every poll.
Despite this, Trump withdrew protection last October.

Well, old boy, since the Pussy Grabber appears to have made such a monumental balls-up of the governance of the, er, United States of America, I think that I might humbly suggest that you allow your former colonial masters to re-assume control of your country; admit that the War of Independence was just a silly mistake and that you should declare our dear Lizzie as your Head of State and accept the appointment of a United Kingdom Viceroy as your Supreme Governor.
I would be quite happy to accept this role and onerous duty in return for a personal Humvee and free hot dogs for life. Oh, and a complimentary season pass to Busch Gardens....

Fred Moletrousers wrote:Original Quill wrote:It's incredible how dumb the Republicans think the people are. Here are the facts:
1. Republicans hold all three branches of government, including both Houses of Congress, yet they can't manage a simple thing like a budget;
2. Republicans claim that the Democrats are to blame because the Senate requires 60 votes on budget matters and they only have 51 Republican senators;
3. But, what they don't tell the people is that 5 Republican senators also voted against the budget, so it's all on their shoulders;
Fancy the job of my Attorney General?
Actually, we offered the job to Bonnie Prince Charles in 1775. He turned it down. So what has changed that Liz I (Scotland) & II (England) would accept?
Attorney General is fine, but I would prefer Steward of the Liquor Cabinet.

Absolutely right, my friend. The main problem was that the railway hadn't been invented back then and because British buttocks are physiologically incapable of withstanding more that 50 miles on horseback without becoming terminally numb, we never got as far as California.
I must say, though, that having been there I quite like it...if only because Santa Barbara is somewhat more exotic and exciting than Milton Keynes!
(Ps: Let's face it, anywhere is more exotic and exciting than Milton Keynes........)

No !! I'll do it. Give me the job! - in exchange for a couple of delicious corndogs, slice of apple pie, and a dram of american whiskey.
I would make random crotch-grabbing by males compulsory as no one cares when the president does it. However I would make wardrobe malfunctions at superbowl an imprisonable offence.
Hey I'm just going by public reaction to said deeds.

Age, old boy, age. Her Maj is brilliant and would sort things out tout suite, as the Froggies would say (the buggers still haven't got over Agincourt!) but she's getting on a bit. I'll do it, though....but Steward of the Liquor Cabinet is out.A definite no-no. That goes with the Viceroy's job!
You could, of course, apply for the appointment of Steward of the Stool; an ancient and honourable Tudor position that meant that the holder was responsible for wiping the royal... (you just don't want to know the rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I’m blaming it on the shutdown.

Actually, that particular job has been resurrected, only today they call it "Trump-rimming".
It is shared by the Republican Speaker of the House and Republican Majority Leader in the Senate, although the Vice President, as President of the Senate, can nose his way in for ceremonial occasions.
