Woman, 22, was left lying on A&E floor in agony for 5 HOURS using her coat as a pillow because there were no free beds

These shocking pictures show a 22-year-old woman lying in agony on the floor of A&E for more than five hours and forced to use her coat as a pillow.

Kyra Dew was rushed to Hereford County Hospital after she collapsed at home, but she was told she would have to wait for a bed to become available.

The footage comes amid record pressure on the NHS, with A&E departments across the country bursting at their seams with an influx of patients.

Casualty doctors have spoken of their grave concerns of the 'battlefield' conditions they have faced this winter, revealing they are 'ashamed' over the 'substandard care'.

Miss Dew, who suffers from endometriosis - which causes stomach pain, was struck down following complications from an operation last month.

It took five hours before a bed became free - by which time her pain had become 'unbearable'. She was given a hospital blanket to keep her warm on the floor.

Her mother, sassy, who drove her to the hospital's A&E unit on January 10, blamed the closure of a local walk-in centre for her daughter's wait.

She said: 'There was no beds or trollies so she could only lie down on the floor and the receptionist got some bedding and coats and made her comfortable.

'Unfortunately due to getting used to the Tramadol and oral morphine, A&E is the only option most months. The staff were brilliant and were running around like mad.

'The closure of the Asda Walk-in centre meant people were coming into A&E with cut fingers and bruises on their heads when before they would have gone elsewhere to get assessed.'

She continued: 'When a doctor came to see her there were other buzzers going off and he was working after his shift had finished. I do feel for the staff as this is down to the Government cut-backs.

'They simply don't have the resources to cope. Seeing Kyra forced to lie on the floor of A&E for hours was heart-breaking.

'I wished we'd stayed at home but we didn't have the painkillers for her so had to come to hospital.

'We also didn't know if it was more serious and maybe she'd suffered an internal bleed. She was in so much pain we had to do something.'

While recovering from her operation at home in Leominster, Miss Dew started suffering stabbing pains on January 10 and her mother sassy drove her to A&E.

let's face it the UK has had almost 2 decades or poor governance so it's not really a good example.

Personally I don't use all the tax deductions I could, I think it is a bit hypocritical to go all out in tax minimisation and then whinge about gov't services.

A lot of people don't use all the deductions they can. Nobody want's to fuck with the government.

We actually have a form here where you can pay extra. Funny thing is, almost no one uses it, even those who think they don't pay enough.

A "full" parliamentary "pension" cuts in after 8 years down here, and then creeps up with their length of service...

Not sure, but I think they might be able to start accessing that annual pension once they have have reached 55 if they leave parliament/get booted out earlier; similar to military, police, coal miners -- rather than waiting to 68 now for normal folks, (used to be 65 for men and 63 for women, but it's gradually being increased to 70..).

With the majority of politicians down here, though, I reckon the majority still either "want to make a difference", or want to further business or investment intetests -- with the high salaries and generous pensions simply being "the cream on the cake".

The problem there is that Britain has a conservative/"free market"- leaning Tory government that is philosophically opposed to publicly-funded universal/national healthcare systems...

They would prefer that all hospitals were privatised, only those who could afford it could access adequate healthcare, and that the poor, disabled and chronically ill were left to die in the streets --   with their own family and friends being the ones to benefit from any 'privitsation' efforts..

At the same time, those Tories are also wily enough to know that changing things suddenly would amount to "political suicide", so instead they are slowly dismantling Britain's public health services through their "death by a thousand cuts" policies, not only cutting funding to finance their promised corporate tax cuts but also by systematically outsourcing and reducing various ancillary services.
