South Africa outlaws single-religion schools
Single-religion schools have been outlawed in South Africa after a ruling at the Johannesburg High Court.
Public schools may no longer promote themselves as subscribing to a single particular religion at the exclusion of others, the court ruled.
The Organisasie vir Godsdienste-Onderrig en Demokrasie (Organisation for Religious Education and Democracy), or OGOD, which fights against religious indoctrination through public schools in South Africa, welcomed the judgement.
He said the judgement meant public schools may not promote one specific religion and exclude others.
“Our case was built on the fact that they were called Christian schools and coerced learners to participate‚” Mr Pietersen said, according to South African daily The Times.
OGOD made the application against six predominantly Christian public schools to prevent them from taking part in 71 instances of religious conduct.

Don't people have rights anymore? Why shouldn't there be single religion schools?
Not that I am in favour of pushing religion down anyone's throat, to be fair.

I think its a great idea and to be honest all schools should be secular and thus netural in teaching.
That religion is a subject that covers all religions.
Too long religious schools have been able to teach a bias and have a bias on selection.
If societies are ever going to have integration, then you need neutral places of learning that are welcoming to all religious and non beliefs.

Yes I do see that but I also see the world going the way of everything being the same - like putting people into boxes.
Which I suppose, single religion schools do too - if I think about it - put people in boxes.
Hmmm. What was my point again? Hahahahaa

How is that making everyone the same, when all faiths are being taught?
That is allowing then students to decide for themselves, as then nobody is being indoctrinated into following a faith. As they generally are by parents and by religious schools
The point with a neutral school, is being able to teach all matters, beliefs, politics, without a bias. Which is becoming more difficult today, with an over balance of Left leaning teachers. Which is becoming a problem.
Some are balanced but others biased.

In my own opinion of faith schools I do agree with you in principle but surely we shouldn't take away the right for single faith schools to exist?

Well, if they want to fund themselves, that is fine, but not on mine or others tax payers money Eddie.
Faiths schools are now nearly entirely state funded.

Fair enough. Can't argue with that I suppose.
