Indonesian Museum Removes Nazi Exhibit After Backlash
An Indonesian museum that allowed visitors to take selfies with a life-sized wax figure of Adolf Hitler has taken down the exhibit following an international outcry. The De ARCA Statue Art Museum in Jogjakarta was accused of mocking victims of the Holocaust for its exhibit, which featured a backdrop of Auschwitz behind a statue of Hitler. Pictures of guests posing with the wax Hitler and grinning flooded social media and shocked rights groups, which said the display made light of the concentration camps that killed millions of people during World War II. Jamie Misbah, the museum’s operations manager, told Agence France-Presse on Saturday the exhibit had been taken down after the outcry. “We don’t want to attract outrage,” Misbah was cited saying, adding that the purpose of the exhibit was to “educate,” not offend.
