Man arrested for attempted murder after girl, 3, dropped 30ft from bridge into river

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a three year-old girl was dropped 30ft from a bridge into a river. Police officers rushed to save the toddler, who is said to be "traumatised", following the incident at 8.30pm on Friday in Astley Bridge, Bolton. Officers received reports that a man was on the bridge and making threats about the child.

He refused to speak to specially-trained police negotiators and dropped the girl into the water.

An officer who was already in the river quickly reached the toddler, and she was taken to hospital where she was found to have a broken wrist.

The man then plunged from the bridge into the water, suffering minor injuries, and was taken to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police believe the incident may have been an attempted murder-suicide.

A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Why take the child's life - if he's sick of life then go ahead but leave an innocent child out of it .

I bet that's an attempt to destroy the child's mother. I agree with you, if he wants to die, that's his choice, but to try to kill the child too is evil.

whilst in general opposed to the DP, simply becasue you cannot wholey trust the authorities or the evidence chain, in cases like this where there are multiple witnesses to the act and there can be NO doubt as to his guilt........ I'd go with it....

So often when cases like this make the news its because the husband wants to get back at the ex, and using a child to do so is the way he can cause the most heartbreak.
