Trump asks lawyers to research his power to pardon self and family...
Well, we now know what Trump and Putin were discussing in Hamburg. Putin is the grand leaker-in-chief, and he's leaking the story that he owns Donald 'pussy-grabber' Trump.
First reported a few minutes ago on Rachael Maddow Show on MSNBC. Will keep watching...more to come.
The Washington Post wrote:WaPo report: Trump said to ask about pardon power for aides, family, himself

OK, here we go, more:
Some of President Trump's lawyers are exploring ways to limit or undercut special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's Russia investigation, building a case against what they allege are his conflicts of interest and discussing the president's authority to grant pardons, according to people familiar with the effort.
Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people.
A second person said Trump's lawyers have been discussing the president's pardoning powers among themselves.
Trump's legal team declined to comment on the issue. But one adviser said the president has simply expressed a curiosity in understanding the reach of his pardoning authority, as well as the limits of Mueller's investigation."This is not in the context of, 'I can't wait to pardon myself," a close adviser said.
The Washington Post 'breaking' headline: Trump lawyers exploring pardoning powers and ways to undercut the Russia investigation, people familiar with the effort say
Will likely weigh on USD/JPY
It hasn't hit Bloomberg nor Reuters as far as I can see ... the newspaper's page is reporting that headline only (the one I have in italics above)

lets hope he can't
it seems a pretty obvious flaw in any justice system if you can pardon yourself from a crime

It's an argument first raised by Nixon back in the 1970's. His private lawyers said 'yes', but the DOJ said 'no'.
Ultimately, Nixon was pardoned by his successor, Gerald Ford. Ford lost his bid for reelection on the very next try.

In a US Supreme Court case back in 1915, it was declared that acceptance of a pardon is legal admission of guilt.
So for Trump to be contemplating it, there is the tacit expectation that he is guilty. But of course, we already know that: where are his tax returns?
