Battle for Mosul: Iraq PM Abadi formally declares victory
The battle for Mosul is allegedly over, and the PM has declared victory.

The fact that it's taken so long does show that ISIS are actually quite strong, which is a bit worrying. The whole place looks a right mess as well.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has formally declared victory over so-called Islamic State (IS) in Mosul.
Mr Abadi waved a national flag with troops after announcing the "collapse of the terrorist state of falsehood".
Earlier, clashes were reported in a small part of Old City where a few dozen IS militants were holding out.
The battle for Mosul has taken almost nine months, left large areas in ruins, killed thousands of civilians and displaced more than 920,000 others.

It's not over. ISIS is just another iteration of a 1400-year old dispute.
Just a while back they were Al-Qaeda in Iraq, then before that, Al-Qaeda (under bin Laden), then before that, the Baath Party...going back to the Muslim Brotherhood and beyond.

I said the battle for Mosul is allegedly over, not the whole war against ISIS.

They'll be back, trust me. It's been going on for 1400 years.

they haven't gone, they still hold several large towns in iraq and syria. the caliphate is more or less dead and buried but the hydra will continue in north africa afghanistan, and south east asia for starters.Original Quill wrote:Raggamuffin wrote:

the world needs to totally squash it where ever it rears its head and keep those who sympathise out of the civilised world.
Britain has around 23000 suspects with 3000 under surveillance, although not 24/7. they should be rounded up and interned or deported until the war is over even if it takes a 100 years.
The C word is never used but this is the crusades for the 21st century.
Saudi mosques should not be allowed to operate in the west as they are a breeding ground for this culture.
IF Muslims cant integrate then they should be free to move elsewhere.

But there's 1.6-billion of them, far more than us. Perhaps the better course is to learn how to get along with them.

This is why I said it was a long battle, and that they're a real threat. If it took that long to chuck them out of Mosul, they have their work cut out.
