10-Year-Old Genius Invents Device That Prevents Hot Car Deaths
A brilliant fifth grader from McKinney, Texas, has invented The Oasis, a small gadget that monitors the temperature inside the car. Once it gets to a certain level, the device emits cool air while simultaneously alerting parents and authorities via an antenna.
10-year-old Bishop Curry has managed to raise over $25,000 for his invention on GoFundMe. Bishop's father says they "hope to begin production as soon as possible."
Learn more about the Oasis in the video below.

And if the parent falls unconscious?
Has a heart attack in the car?
Or a stroke?
Or countless other reasons?

Isn't it odd how two people can read the same story and each person sees something different?
See, i read that story and didn't think about the gadget (though it is pretty bloody good) as much as I thought about what a clever boy he was and how he might one day save a child's life.
Be like the Hanged Man, Tommy. See things from a different perspective occasionally.

Re: 10-Year-Old Genius Invents Device That Prevents Hot Car Deaths
So it would be ok to leave infant children locked in a car somewhere, unattended, on a hot day... as long as this proposed device was fitted...!?
Aside from the fact that the device could develop a fault, or be forgotten to be switched on properly etc (as it would have to be on/off selectable to avoid it calling authorities every time it was hot with nobody in car)...
Arent you both overlooking the main issue, which is that you dont leave young children unattended...!?
You cant leave them in the safety of your own home unattended if they are below a certain age... what makes you think it would be ok to leave them in a car somewhere out in the open with all sorts of people walking about...!?
Are you mad!?

Re: 10-Year-Old Genius Invents Device That Prevents Hot Car Deaths
.At the moment, Bishop only has a 3-D clay model of the device, but his father, Bishop Curry IV, began a GoFundMe campaign for the Oasis in January.
a NON FUNCTIONAL prototype, but you can go dump you money into his gofundme account
so the technical limitation...
where are you getting the cool air from? Air-cons (portable or otherwise) just move heat one way and cold another so if the whole unit is in the car the temp in t he car would remain static, you'd need to connect and exhaust port to the outside of the car. they are also quite a lot larger than that and use significant power.
if it where wired into the vehicle it could maybe use the vehicles air-con or open windows but that normally requires power to the vehicle accessories which most cars do not have when turned off.
the alarm system has many fail points to, does it detect if the child is in the car? or just goes off every time the interior get over heated (even when empty)?
these are the best solution (got them for my dogs)
but even then they are not sufficient for very hot weather or a car sitting in direct sunlight, and I leave a water bowl too (plus some frozen bottles in warmer weather)

I DON'T SEE that device being capable of cooling cars sufficiently (nor moving a large enough quantity of cool, fresh air..) -- just looking to the size of his concept mockup -- in the kinds of heat seen in places like Teaxas, southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, NSW, Qld, Melbourne, Perth, southern parts of Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, much of Africa, et al..
There are much more reliable preventative measures :
* don't live children or pets in cars;
* Remind parents that they could be locked up if they do so;
* And, Let everybody else know that Good Samaritan Laws give legal protection to those who rescue children (and often animals, too..) from locked vehicles..
I agree with Tommy on this one -- (a) young children should never be left alone in cars, especially locked cars; and (b) that kid hasn't actually "invented" or developed anything, as yet.

Nobody is saying they should be left alone in cars, but it does still happen. And its not just people leaving them in the car as stated.
The point is clearly there is interest in this and its very silly to discount this, when it could actually save lives.
I suggest people wait to see if the product is viable wolf, before condemning this
