Armed police seize 'knifeman' outside Parliament

A suspected knifeman has been seized by armed police outside Parliament.

The unnamed man was stopped with a Taser and arrested just yards from where Khalid Masood was earlier this year shot dead trying to storm the Palace of Westminster with a knife.

There were reports the man was tackled after shouts of “knife! knife! knife!”

A man was photographed with his hands cuffed behind his back close to Parliament’s Carriage Gates.

Parliament has been on heightened alert since Masood killed five when he drove a hire car at pedestrians along Westminster Bridge and them stabbed a policeman to death as he tried to get into Parliament.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “A man was detained near to the Palace of Westminster.

The man - aged in his 30s - was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife.

There are no reports of any injuries.
