Government has failed to act on air pollution, says Labour Empty Government has failed to act on air pollution, says Labour

Labour has accused the government of failing to act on air pollution, which it says is a "public health emergency".

The party said millions of people in the UK were living in areas with illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and called air pollution levels a "national scandal".

More Labour hypocrisy... as it was labour who encouraged people to buy diesel engine cars for years while in government...

It was labour govt who also allowed mass immigration into the country... and huge numbers of these immigrants have arrived in London... leading to the London population ballooning from around 6 million in 1996, to a reported number of 8.6 million in January 2015, and to now where the true number is likely to be nearer to 10 million!!!

And of course this means that there would also have been a huge increase in the number of vehicles around... and increasing number of heavy polluting diesel vehicles, like extra busses to transport these extra people around, and extra lorries/vans to move the extra amount of food/goods that are needed...!

I believe it is known as selective amnesia.

To be fair, the proven fuel economy of diesels together with the then perceived "cleanliness" so far as emissions were concerned, lower possibility of fire in an accident and sturdier, longer lasting engines did make sense at the time.

The organisation for which I worked replaced its entire 200 car fleet over a period of a couple of years or so and that's when I was issued with my first diesel, a Peugeot. I've driven diesel ever since and now have a two litre BMW with, supposedly, one of the cleanest of diesel engines; my road tax costs only thirty quid a year.

Frankly, if we went back to ponies and traps, whichever government was in power would come up with a range of excuses for taxing them.

Promoting diesels never made sense because of the then already known high levels of harmful exhaust particulates... PM10s PM5s and PM2.5s etc...
