Probes into firms flouting minimum wage drop by more than half under David Cameron
The number of investigations have dropped during David Cameron's time in charge
The number of probes into firms flouting minimum wage rules has more than halved since David Cameron became PM.
Ministers have revealed the number of investigations fell from 1,492 in final 12 months of Labour rule up to the 2010 election to just 431 last year.
The figures were disclosed just days after Chancellor George Osborne said he would back an increase in the £6.31 hourly rate for the minimum wage.
But Labour slammed the Chancellor and PM for failing to tackle rogue bosses who ignored the rules on pay.
Labour’s Shadow Trade Minister Ian Murray said: “These figures show that while David Cameron and George Osborne may talk tough on the minimum wage the reality is that warm words have not been backed with action.
“Under David Cameron, the minimum wage has lost five per cent of its value and investigations for non-compliance have more than halved.
“Labour is clear of the need for above inflation rises in the minimum wage in order to catch up the lost value over the last few years.
“The reality is the Tory-led government’s policies have increased insecurity in the workplace.”
Earlier this month, Business Secretary Vince Cable announced plans to quadruple the maximum fines on bosses who break minimum wage rules to £20,000.
But critics say the Government has undermined its pledges with the huge drop in the number of investigations into potential breaches of minimum pay rules.

Disgraceful
Just 431 investigations were carried out last year compared to 1,492 in the final 12 months of the Labour government
It's obvious why that is.
The Tories only care for business profits over the welfare of the ordinary person on the street.
Time to kick the bastards out.

What a bloody cheek too, he is happy to collect his £67000 salary or whatever he gets, as well as being born into money ,mute he is not interested enough in those being robbed of the NMW.

They really couldn't give a stuff JD.
I think it's really scary, the way the Tory mentality is getting even worse!
They really need to be kicked into touch.

This presupposes that those flouting are as high as they were 4 years ago.
No evidence of that.
Meanwhile we are letting you get away with benefit fraud. That needs urgently addressing.
