One day ago:

Trump says Obamacare replacement plan could take until next year

President Trump is giving an extended timeline for when his administration could be expected to roll out a new plan to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), former President Obama’s landmark healthcare legislation.

In an interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly that aired Sunday, Mr. Trump made the vague assertion that it could take “’til sometime into next year.”

Asked if Americans could expect a replacement plan in 2017, the president said, “yes, in the process and maybe it’ll take till sometime into next year but we’re certainly going to be in the process.”

He added that it’s “very complicated,” but urged Americans to remember that “Obamacare is a disaster.”

“Obamacare doesn’t work so we are putting in a wonderful plan,” Mr. Trump said. “It statutorily takes a while to get.  We’re going to be putting it in fairly soon. I think that yes, I would like to say by the end of the year -- at least the rudiments -- but we should have something within the year and the following year.”

January 15:

Trump said his plan for replacing most aspects of Obama’s health-care law is all but finished. Although he was coy about its details — “lower numbers, much lower deductibles” — he said he is ready to unveil it alongside Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

“It’s very much formulated down to the final strokes. We haven’t put it in quite yet but we’re going to be doing it soon,” Trump said.

Nov. 1, 2016:

Donald Trump on Tuesday vowed to immediately repeal and replace President Barack Obama’s signature health care law if he’s elected president next week.

“When we win on Nov. 8 and elect a Republican Congress, we will be able to immediately repeal and replace Obamacare. We have to do it,” Trump said Tuesday afternoon in an address on the Affordable Care Act in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

I will ask Congress to convene a special session so we can repeal and replace,” he continued. “And it will be such an honor for me, for you and for everybody in this country because Obamacare has to be replaced. And we will do it, and we will do it very, very quickly. It is a catastrophe.”

Idea

Obamacare was never a genuine "failure"...
Though the GOP often passed off their own Congressional blocks as such..

Repub's simply kept that mantra going for years --  under the well-worn strategy "throw enough mud, and hope that some of it sticks.." --  as often seen on here with IT's semi-regular spamming..

As the Dumpster brigade start reverse-engineering the health system, to actually find out what works and what doesn't,  they will probably discover that they actually can't afford to repeal a lot of what they promised --  not without leaving some 30-odd million people without any health care.

What's the odds now,  that next they will attempt to relabel and repackage a lot of the 'Obamacare' advances --  and then start to pass it off as a 'new and improved' system  ?       present

it depends what the measure of success was?

if it was "allow citizens to die for no reason other than they don't have enough money"
then it was a failure since it reduced that. Trump can't keep his Obamacare replacement stories straight 2190311264

sounds weird, but I think many conservatives think poor people dying is good.. ironic that many of them are poor themselves Trump can't keep his Obamacare replacement stories straight 202592697

I don't know that conservatives wish people to die so much as they wish to commit them to the abyss of nothingness...ie, it's one of those places that conservatives would rather not think about (of which there are many).

Personally, I'm willing to declare the Affordable Care Act (AFA) a failure.  It fails because it depends upon the market.  As we have seen in many contexts, capital-based oligarchic markets inevitably raise prices through manipulation of supply.  We are seeing the same thing in the case of the AFA: Aetna, Humana, Anthem and CIGNA are pulling out (withholding supply) in order to drive up the price of premiums.  What did we see when OPEC withheld supply in the 1970's?  Fuel shortage = long lines, indicating heightened demand = higher prices. My conclusion is we must completely abandon the market in order to assure proper delivery of healthcare. We've come to realize this same truth with respect to the military, the Coast Guard, police and fire protection--all essential services. It's time with healthcare.

Anything but unmitigated socialized medicine (single payer) is not going to work.

I just think it's pitiful that he went from promising to replace it "immediately," to "we've got a plan we're putting the finishing touches on and will present soon," to "maybe next year."

But apparently Trump supporters don't mind being fucked by the right politician ...

But you know Trump is a liar.  C'mon.  He told Howard Stern he was in favor of the Iraqi War, but then denied he ever said it...it was on video, fgs.  He denies ever having mocked the disabled...it's on video, fgs.

Politico wrote:Donald Trump is in a different category. The sheer frequency, spontaneity and seeming irrelevance of his lies have no precedent. Nixon, Reagan and Clinton were protecting their reputations; Trump seems to lie for the pure joy of it. A whopping 70 percent of Trump’s statements that PolitiFact checked during the campaign were false, while only 4 percent were completely true, and 11 percent mostly true. (Compare that to the politician Trump dubbed “crooked,” Hillary Clinton: Just 26 percent of her statements were deemed false.)

Those who have followed Trump’s career say his lying isn’t just a tactic, but an ingrained habit. New York tabloid writers who covered Trump as a mogul on the rise in the 1980s and ’90s found him categorically different from the other self-promoting celebrities in just how often, and pointlessly, he would lie to them. In his own autobiography, Trump used the phrase “truthful hyperbole,” a term coined by his ghostwriter referring to the flagrant truth-stretching that Trump employed, over and over, to help close sales. Trump apparently loved the wording, and went on to adopt it as his own.

It was noted back in the days where we expected "platforms" out of candidates: things they were against, things they would promote, what they stood for.  Trump had no platform.  He just had fits and starts of claims that blended into insults (he attacked Megyn Kelly as menstruating when she asked about his insults toward women).

Certain insightful members of the press were warning us that he was not saying anything, and if you found a claim that looked like it would stand the test of truth or falsity, it was just an emotive remark (as his apologists explain after-the-fact).  He isn't just a liar, but he's greasy and slippery about it.

What I find somewhat disturbing is that the press is letting him get away with it.  Because of his position, they are loosening their grip on abject truth and accepting the 'Trump way' as normal.  Kellyanne Conway even has the ovaries to call it alternative facts.  WTF...facts that are untrue are just alternative facts?  Every time I hear a newspaper reporter say 'That's just the way he is', I want to scream.  Truth is truth goddammit!  There's no way that a lie is not a lie.

One day, if he is diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, will the media say his doctor was misinterpreted?  He's fuckin' crazy...live with it!
