Boko Haram Suicide Squads Include Little Boys, Girls, and Now Babies

WARRI, Nigeria—What we call Boko Haram is a fractured, brutal, and deeply cynical collection of killers supposedly waging a religious war against the government of Nigeria. But as the government’s military offensive continues to deprive them of territory, these would-be holy warriors have resorted to the use of women and children, even infants, as part of their suicide-bombing avant-garde. And at the same time they have targeted public health programs, trying to stop campaigns to vaccinate children, and thus putting many tens of thousands at risk.

All this is done in the name of what they call Islam. But this has become a war on innocents.

The town of Madagali, located just at the edge of Sambissa forest in Nigeria’s northeastern Adamawa state, is a place where Boko Haram often uses young girls as walking bombs. Since Nigerian forces regained control of the town in 2015, over 100 people have been killed by female bombers in four separate attacks in Madagali. But after last month’s deadly bombing in which 56 civilians were killed, security was beefed up. Now anyone entering the town is searched first by local vigilantes—and then by the military.

If a soldier is in a hostile situation he must save his own life and that of his comrades at all costs whether it be a child or adult armed enemy..

I'm wondering, is there is a difference between the "holy warriors" and the "women and children, even infants...? You see 12-year old commanders in the field, allegedly victimizing 12-year old's in the villages, and next week the tables are reversed, so you wonder who is 'they' and who is 'us'?

So you are saying that this extremist group are not doing anything bad.

Boko Haram has always been bad news, since their inception...

Amoral rapists, murderers, thugs and exploiters, using a faux religious or political front to defend the indefensible --  much along the same lines as the more nomadic "Army of God" roaming around central Africa, the KKK in America, Pol Pot in Cambodia, criminal militia groups in southern Indonesia, Marxist groups in central and South America..     And the list goes on...

There has always those opportunistic, perverted, barbaric and exploitative criminal gangs -- all too ready to run amok and take the advantage whenever a vulnerable government or a crumbing society provides them traction..

And the solution is also always the same --  remove them from the gene pool.

You haven't identified the 'good' guys and the 'bad' guys.  We know there are children playing soldiers in Nigeria.  And you are saying there are children among the victims.  Generally, children = good, but in this case you are implying that good = bad.

Like a lot of your presentations, there are fuzzy bits along the edges.  Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys, and how do we tell them apart?  Children are being involuntarily pressed into military service.  Are they the victims?  But they are killing other children.  Are, then, those children the victims?  

I think that's why, despite the obvious atrocities, people don't get excited about this story.  That...and as Clive Cussler said, It's Africa.  **nods cynically**

I never did. Indoctrinating a child with the view to kill themselves with a fake reward into an afterlife, is as bad as the indoctrination with the Hitler Youth. Its child abuse and even more so to use babies as bombs.
So I have no idea what claptrap you are coming out with because this is specific to what Boko Hamam are doing systemically in Nigeria. Where are the children being pressed into service in the Nigerian army?
