Australian Honey Proven to Be Effective Against Superbugs

Leptospermum spp. here in Oz have the local names of 'Tea (or ti-) trees', or in some regions 'Honey myrtles'...

While there are dozens of species of Leptospermum here in Oz, and a couple dozen more of the closely related Melaleuca genus,  the name Manuka rightfully belongs to a handful of Leptospermum spp. over the ditch in NZ..


WHILE it has long been known that honey in general has antibiotic properties and characteristics, and that Leptospermum (and even some Melaleucas..) are especially efficacious, the marketing of NZ Manuka/"Jelly bush" honey has built it's own reputation over the last couple of decades..

Aussie Leptospermum and Meleleuca varities have been use in MediHoney in the past, but NZ Manuka was thought to be #1 in effectiveness, mainly because that's where most research had been concentrated.

University research and trials just over the last two or three years though, comparing different varieties  of Leptospermum honies, has shown that several Aussie varieties are just as good as the NZ Manuka, and a couple may even be better..


GOOD NEWS for the medical community --  and good news for those Aussie beekeepers who are lucky enough as to have ready access to sources of the right Leptospermum varieties, especially up on the mid-to-far North Coast of NSW, and some pockets of S.E. Qld --  as they can earn up to four, five, six times the price of regular table honies, for 'straight line' deliveries on the wholesale market...

There used to be plentiful supplies of Leptospermum sp. Tea trees around here 30 or 40 years ago, but access to  much of that has been lost to property developers and coal mines over the years..

I hear recently some woman in the US died of a superbug, that no antibiotic was effective against.

I have a huge respect for honey - good quality honey otherwise it's simply sugar-glue.
I think it holds many, many magical secrets for our bodies that we are only just finding out.

it is actually not that magic, it's indigenous knowledge and science.

Tea trees have been used by the aboriginals for thousands of years they are a natural antiseptic and disinfectant. you can literally soak the leaves in warm water (not boiling) and pound into a paste and apply to wounds. Or seep the leaves into a tea (hence the name) that assist with sore throats and colds. Also you can boil them and breathe in the steam for head colds and sinus infections.

this honey comes from hives that have almost exclusively used tea trees.
it seems to transfer many of the tress natural properties when combined with Honeys natural antibacterials it makes sense that it will have medicinal benefits.
