Arctic heatwave
First topic message reminder :
Arctic heatwave could break records - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-38417198cientists now say the Arctic heatwave is entirely down to man madeclimate change.
It doesn't take a genius to work that out.
The world is getting warmer.
And mankind is causing it.

I see no one commented on my earlier post about Volcanoes, cows. Methane from the sea etc. Could I have spoken a little truth?

Well, since there have always been volcanic activities on earth and those occasions that earth gets hit hard by a meter ...the rational from all those trillion of years of history seems a moot point!
But your point regarding 'METHANE' and the origins from whence it comes has been covered over on the 'GLOBAL WARMING' topic (quite well) ...but I'll add this caveat - given the size of those dinosaurs (and now we know some are even larger the the skeletons in our museums) ...how many cows does it take to equate to one dinosaur fart

No... the simple truth is that the sun has been giving out more heat/energy over the last 100 years... this is backed up by scientific observations... and was even shown on one of the graphs that YOU have previously posted up!!!
This is what has caused the very slight warming over the last 100 years... and it is also known that the world temperatures have been warmer many times for sustained periods over the last 2000 years and more!

And the connected dots for those emails ...would be filled with the faked data and remarked upon within the emails; but explaining that to Tommykins is as useful as his grasping this entire 'Global Warming' issue! FUTILE
But a dear friend sent this link to aide in his potential educational attempt ...never let it be said that we just give up and deny Tommy a chance to LEARN!https://nsidc.org/news/newsroom/20050801_floatingice.htmlMelting of Floating Ice Will Raise Sea Level
Figure 1: A freshwater ice cube floats in a beaker of concentrated saltwater. Note that the ice cube floats much higher in the saltwater than it would in a glass of freshwater because saltwater has a greater density.
Figure 2: When the freshwater ice melts, it raises the water level. Freshwater is not as dense as saltwater; so the floating ice cube displaced less volume than it contributed once it melted.
When ice on land slides into the ocean, it displaces ocean water and causes sea level to rise. People believe that when this floating ice melts, water level doesn’t rise an additional amount because the freshwater ice displaces the same volume of water as it would contribute once it melts. Similarly, people also think that when ocean water freezes to form sea ice and then melts, the water is merely going through a change of state, so it won’t affect sea level. However, in a visit to NSIDC in May, Dr. Peter Noerdlinger, a professor at St. Mary’s University in Nova Scotia, Canada, suggested otherwise.
In a paper titled "The Melting of Floating Ice will Raise the Ocean Level" submitted to Geophysical Journal International, Noerdlinger demonstrates that melt water from sea ice and floating ice shelves could add 2.6% more water to the ocean than the water displaced by the ice, or the equivalent of approximately 4 centimeters (1.57 inches) of sea-level rise.
The common misconception that floating ice won’t increase sea level when it melts occurs because the difference in density between fresh water and salt water is not taken into consideration. Archimedes’ Principle states that an object immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. However, Noerdlinger notes that because freshwater is not as dense as saltwater, freshwater actually has greater volume than an equivalent weight of saltwater. Thus, when freshwater ice melts in the ocean, it contributes a greater volume of melt water than it originally displaced.
Noerdlinger's collaborator, Professor Kay R. Brower, of the New Mexico Institute of Technology, Socorro, validated the effect experimentally as seen in Figures 1 and 2.
Seawater contains about 3.5% salt... so when freshwater ice cube is placed in it, only some of it will be floating above the water level... vast majority of it below... but you also have to consider how much more of the seawater has already been displaced by the expanded area taken up by the frozen water (ice), as when water freezes it expands by a factor of 112 or roughly 9%...

I was aiming for more 'quantity' then odor.
Both wouldn't be an aroma that we'd cherish and the volume and force from say a TRANTASAURUS could put a entire feed lot of cattle to shame

Aren't they adding to warming?
First off, volcanoes have always been there, since year dot...
So that the gases from them are part-and-parcel of the natural background levels...
Far exceeded by methane and ethane production from rotting vegetation, animal farts, decomposing animal carcases, and other biomass degradation...
The effects of human interventions, developments and expansionism on these gas levels are 'multi-faceted', viz :
Agriculture adds more farting animals, and more rotting garbage;
Deforestation adds more rotting vegetation, while at the same time reducing the total vegetative biomass, increasing overall methane levels;
Human urban sprawl removes vegetation, thereby reducing the natural "sinks" that would absorb a lot of gases..
It is the cumulative effects of human intervention over the past 300 years that is adding to Methane and CO2 levels, accelerating the heating (and cooling..) resulting from the natural "greenhouse" effects in natural climate, cycles.
These accelerating temperature swings in turn, are upsetting the natural heat pump and circulation systems across the planets climate, further accelerating the pace of climate change and extreme events..
Resulting in the more frequent, unseasonal and extraordinary weather patterns experienced over this past decade; along with record temperature swings, increased dry periods, melting glaciers, and unexpected droughts or floods in various regions...

Typical of the global warming 'science'... bit of truth mixed in with loads of bullshit!!!

a.) our Tommykins has had many an updated variety of well published articles and links provided for his educational enhancements
b.) this makes what the 3rd/4th possible 10th discussion regarding the most up todate NOAA news and he's still posting out dated BS
c.) we all have tried - we've all wasted out time - we've all lost our patience - and he's called us lovely - lovely names
d.) stomping stupid out of Tommykins would leave us with just his clothing to get rid of ...and none of us want to take this issue that far.

If some one has a different opinion to you, why do some members insist on calling him stupid and insult him every time he puts his opinion forward.
Why not just provide the evedence that he is wrong, [if thats what you think]and leave it at that. A certain poster puts the childish "kins" on the end of a name. There is no need for that.

I don't link to fossil fuel sites...
The sun has increased output over the last 100 years.
We have come out of a relativly cold period known as the 'mini ice age'.
We have returned to temperatures that we had before this cool period.
All easily checkable facts... see for yourself... and can be found on history and science Web sites that have no interests or links to fossil fuels.

IT'S ALL very well to have people enter a discussion with reasoned and well argued opinions on the topic...
However, when a trolling denialist agitator simply keeps on peddling old, tired and disproven oil and mining company propaganda puff pieces, with the clear intention of disrupting and derailing these discussions..
Then, we do have both the right -- and the moral obligation -- to shoot down the arguments, and agendas, of such troublesome unpaid corporate shills.

"Opinions are like arseholes. Everybody has one..".
Why is it that when I state evidence-backed factual statements on topics such as the environment, human rights, animal welfare, equality and fairness, health issues, and the likes, my comments will be attacked as "leftie/waffle/trolling/arsehole 'comments'," and sometimes worse..
And yet when some antagonists, propagandists or denialists start spouting lies and corporate bluster, others are supposed to accept that those spurious opinions as somehow being opinions "of equal value".
Nope.
Opinions based on corporate lies and deflections shouldn't be considered equal to evidence and factual based stateements..

OK, so how does that affect the experiment of ice melting in water? The one you talked about was normal ice in normal water, and the one 4ever talked about was normal ice in salty water. If the ice is formed from sea water, it would be salty water melting in salty water.

Slightly salty ice Melting in sea water...
When arctic seawater starts to freeze, the water ice crystals start to form and squeeze out the salt, leaving most of it in the water.

So the ice is less salty than the sea. What effect would that have on sea levels when the ice melts?
