George Michael has died.

George Michael has died at his home in Oxfordshire.
Michael's publicist said that he had 'passed away peacefully' at his property in Goring at 1.42pm today.
Michael, 53, had previously battled alcohol and drug addiction. However, the circumstances around his death are currently unknown.

That is very sad news indeed. He had one of the best voices, and I particularly liked Wham. I thought they were very different to anything around at the time. I was wondering what had happened to him a week or two ago. A sad loss indeed.

The English singer, songwriter and record producer who rose to fame with the group Wham! "passed away peacefully at home," Michael's publicist told BBC on Christmas Day. 
"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," read the statement. "The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Haven't heard anything - haven't heard him sing in some time, but he was a power house in the 80's!  Shocking - gone for to soon!

I went to Wham's last concert in 1986.

I liked the lyrics to Wham Rap.

He certainly was. His lyrics were amazing for some of his more serious songs. Rumour has it that he might have had HIV. How true this is will be revealed in time, I guess.

He was extremely talented.   I wasn't a huge huge fan, but some of his songs were tear jerkers.

Can't say I care for Wham but I have all his later stuff - 53 is way too young - and 2016 is a truly shit year.

I'm not usually fond of slow tracks, but I like this one.

Because I used to live round here.

So, it was heart failure after all. Poor guy. 53 is no age to die.

Heart failure is a condition, not a disease. Did he die of congestive heart failure...most likely he had a defective heart valve:

Lifestyle played the biggest part.
Years of alcohol and drug abuse killed him.
Its a major contribution to most early deaths.

Well, we don't know what we don't know and as Quill's post listed the many diagnosis that could have been possible ...he might have inherited a heart defect that was unknown until later in his ife. 
 Not all things can be treated or FIXED by meds/technology, he was a talented man with a musical range and exceedingly HANDSOME too.

Heart failure is a bit of a blanket term really. I can't remember the last time I saw George Michael. I think it was on the X Factor when he sang with the fabulous Joe McElderry. That was in 2009 though - can't believe it was that long ago.

Not my cup of tea, but certainly an artist of our time.

He apparently smoked a lot of weed. 25 joints a day. Smoking does so much damage to all your body, I'm not surprised he made himself ill. Hear failure isn't a heart attack. It means the heart is weakened so much it fails to pump the blood round the body. He'd abused himself so much I guess it was inevitable. Some people just can't take that kind of abuse, while others seem to manage. It's probably all down to your natural constitution.

I've been reading all the lovely tributes to George from his friends in the music business and showbiz in general. Andrew Ridgeley has said he's heartbroken at the death of his friend. It must have been a big shock for him. He largely disappeared from the music scene years ago, but he must be thinking about all the fun he and George had when they formed Wham and became so famous.

May he rest in peace.
He was certainly talented.

The post-mortem results were inconclusive apparently, and there will be more tests to determine what he died of.
