Ok, I've crushed the hawthorns 2kg and poured 7.5ltrs of hot water, put them in the fermenting bin for 8 days (stirring every day ) got 2kg Demerara sugar, 8 oranges, 5 lemons, am now going to strain hawthorns and cook it all up.

A friend of mine makes homemade wine, I've tasted it and it was really nice!
It doesn't contain all the nasty chemicals of commercial wine does it?

It's supposed to not give you a hangover either because of the lack of chemicals...

Re: Making hawthornberry wine today!
A few years ago I put 12 bottles of Damson wine in the Airing Cupboard to "settle". Was woken one night to a "popping sound" that went on for about 5 mins. Got out of bed, opened the cupboard door and it looked like a Slaughter House, the cork stoppers had shot out of every one.
Pillow cases, sheets, ect had to be thrown away,it soaked through the ceiling into the Kitchen and on to the floor were I found the Cat and Dog licking it up !

I'm hoping to avoid that scenario, I've got it in the airing cupboard with that thing in the top allowing it to ferment.nicko wrote:A few years ago I put 12 bottles of Damson wine in the Airing Cupboard to "settle".
