Was the malfunction related to the capsize?

As far as the news here is concerned, they don't yet know. Clearly, I think, if the ride had functioned as it should have, the raft would not have capsized. The investigation is on-going.

Re: Malfunction At Thunder River Rapids
to be fair this is normally a safe ride.
it has been operating without major incident for nearly 30 years.
very sad and there are major investigations under way to find out the cause.

They had named the four adult victims, on the news here tonight :
http://www.news.com.au/national/queensland/at-least-four-people-injured-after-serious-dreamworld-incident/news-story/ab194466f5fd49e1e1c17e5468bbbd47
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-26/girls-survived-dreamworld-rapids-ride-accident-which-killed-four/7965068
Dreamworld is located around 800kms (500 miles) north of here..
I've driven past there a handful of times, but never actually been into that theme park.

Re: Malfunction At Thunder River Rapids
There used to wonderland near my house in blacktown (it closed a decade ago)
it had the same ride but called snowy river rampage, and to be honest it is a relative safe set up.
And I have been on a malfunctioning loop the loop ride it was stuck upside down for like 45 mins
I was only about 9 or 10 and would have been far more freaked if i wasn't with my older cousins that kept us thinking it was fun it wasn't until they basically were at the point of extracting us that i realized how serious it was.
