Re: Two Young Brothers And Killer Dog
another bloody "staffie"
considering their origins and original use the whole of the "bull" breeds should be culled by compulsary neutering of ALL existing dogs, followed by a £20,000 fine and 5 years in gaol for posessing an un neutered specimin and in 15 years time the same for posessing one AT ALL.....

Re: Two Young Brothers And Killer Dog
owners of Staffies will tell you they are the most loyal and friendly of pets. However, all dogs can be unpredictable and what makes this breed type so dangerous is its jaws, and the crushing ability.

Re: Two Young Brothers And Killer Dog
owners of anything will tell you all sorts...
the fact is the bull breeds are especially unstable and untrustworthy....
the simple fact is they were bred for aggression and attack ability...they are a fighting dog.

People abuse them too, and torment them and encourage them to be aggressive.

Re: Two Young Brothers And Killer Dog
same with all breeds
any dog treated like that is going to be agressive
are you suggesting that the bull breeds are especially singled out?

Re: Two Young Brothers And Killer Dog
The dog in this case was referred to as a staffie 'type' dog.
Whatever that means.

Sorry Ziz I misunderstood you. This has been on my mind all day. When my boy was tiny he would go missing and be found in the dogs bed with Frasier my staffie. Cuddled up together . When I hear things like this it really devastates me.

Re: Two Young Brothers And Killer Dog
My "favourite" breeds of dogs are the working breeds, e.g. German shepherds, Border collies, Kelpies, cattle dogs and their various crosses...
Main drawback, apart from the amount of feed they go through, is that they are active and energetic types, that really deserve to have plenty of room to roam in..
I would also be willing to look after other large dogs like Afghans, wolfhounds, lab's and retrievers, even retired greyhounds...
I reckon one of the main problems with many of the worse examples of 'Bull terrier, Bull Mastiff (and especially the American pit bull hybrids..) breeds are those dickless girly-men owners and breeders, making up for their own poor self-image and lack of masculinity, by breeding more savage dogs, and then failing to socialise and train them..

No worries, Miffs, I currently have two very boisterous Jack crosses and have kept dogs my entire life - I fully understand both sides of this issue.

People fail to understand canine psychology. For starters, if this dog was not brought up around children, then it will immediately try to assert its domination over newcomers, particularly if they are perceived as subordinate. A child is on the same eye level as a dog, and therefore either seen as an equal or something to dominate. The way an alpha dog dominates is to attack and subdue. Another dog would read the signs and submit. A child will scream and struggle, triggering the attack mode even more. A baby has no chance, a soft target.
I had a samoyed, who never bit a person or lifted his lip in his whole life, but I'd have never left him alone with kids because he wasn't used to them.

Jack Russells were bred to kill rats. All terriers were originally bred to kill. You have to seriously look at the breeding lineage of a dog before choosing a family pet. But that's not to say, most dogs are fine with the proper handling.
Samoyeds, for example, were bred by the Samoyedic tribes of Siberia to herd reindeer. They were raised to sleep in the tents with the children and all aggressive puppies were killed. They make lousy guard dogs, but they're so human friendly they're almost like people. Also, they don't smell doggy, which is a huge bonus.

Yes you have to get the dog after the children. I wouldn't have a dog with a newborn baby anyway.

Re: Two Young Brothers And Killer Dog
had a Jack Russell [Cindy] for 16 yrs. My Daughter and her young friends would dress her up as a baby and take her for "walks" in a Pram.
Many a Woman had a shock when peering into the Pram to see the "Baby".

mine are opposite the Jack Russel has only ever looked like biting someone when they pretended to attack me.
but the maltese cross will snap at ankles if people step on his tail or paws or something.
Jack Russel's have a high desire to please to I have trained mine not to attack lizards or birds even though she was at least 6 years old when i got her.
AND it is almost all the owner.
English staffies aren't even big and when socalised properly are great dogs.
it is just like pitbulls and the bigger Ameircan staffies
silly girly men try to make up for their lack of testicles with a big dog.
anyone that talks about Guard dog or protection when talking about a pet dog should not have a dog. and definitly not a big one
