First Debate
Wow! Clinton versus the drug addict. Was that cocaine that Trump was sniffing all throughout the debate? I kept hearing his sniffing, and watching him put his finger to his nose. I've seen a lot of snow pushers when I was a prosecutor, and I think I know what was going on.
Anyway, it was class vs. bluster. Trump looked so bad; and Hillary just sat back and watched it happen. All she had to do was give him that snarky grandmother look, and it put him in his place.
Trump should lay off the blow. It gives him too much metabolism and he doesn't have the brains to keep up. No wonder he's a motor-mouth.
To Hillary: 80 - 20.

Re: First Debate
For the guy who kept leaning on his podium and looking like he was falling asleep to bring up stamina was pretty priceless -- Clinton was poised, enjoying herself and definitely came across as the brighter person on the stage, and looked like she could have gone three more hours (maybe even wanted to). She just wiped the floor with him.
Re: First Debate
I now know where he gets his stamina. From now on, it's Donald "Blow" Trump. That guy had sucked at least a quarter cup just before he went on.
And we now know why he has filed for bankruptcy six times...he needs a visit to Mountain Vista Farms, where recovery is guaranteed.

IF Trump manages more than 30-something % of the votes come November, than that would be a sure sign that the USA had developed some kind of a collective death wish...

What you are describing fits perfectly...he needs another line, he's running out of "stamina".

Re: First Debate
I just remembered one of my favorite Trumpisms: I certainly would not be the first one to use nuclear weapons...but I can't take anything off the table.
Um...disavowing first use is taking something off the table. It says you won't be the initiator of use of nuclear weapons during hostilities. But not taking anything off the table means you are leaving open first use as an option. And that was all in a single sentence.
This is a man who wants the red button in his desk.

Re: First Debate
Less than 20-hours after the Clinton-Trump debate, the Arizona Republic, the primary newspaper of Phoenix, has endorsed Hillary Clinton. The Republic has been published since 1890, and it has never before endorsed a Democrat, in any race.

Re: First Debate
Before the debate they were neck and neck in most marginal states.
Hillary came off better in this first debate so in theory she should be inching ahead in the polls in those seats
The next one is October 9, may the best 'man' win..

You're making stuff up and sounding like a newspaper.
The following is a typical list of symptoms:
Rehabs.com wrote:Signs of Cocaine Addiction
Since cocaine users sometimes may not be able to identify their own addiction, it may be up to family and friends to look for signs of cocaine use. With early detection, you might be able to stop your loved one’s cocaine experimentation from turning into cocaine addiction. If your loved one is using cocaine, you may recognize some of these classic signs of cocaine use2:
* Enlarged pupils so dilated that eyes look almost entirely black.
* Restlessness, increased alertness and energy.
* Loss of interest in food; weight loss.
* Loss of interest in sleep; insomnia.
* Talkativeness, fast speech or scattered speech – skipping from topic to topic.
* Dramatic mood changes: elated, irritable, depressed, argumentative, aggressive.
* Increased heart rate.
* Nasal congestion.
Weight loss is only listed as secondary to indifference toward food. I wouldn't know from any first hand experience, but it appears not to be a primary symptom.
The one thing you always hear about is the nasal congestion. That, I have seen in heavy users. It's quite obvious, but like tobacco users who don't perceive the smell, the cocaine user seems oblivious to the constant sniffing.
It any case, the sniffing was obvious in Trump's case on Monday night.
Also, although youtube clipped it out, several of the hand gestures showed Trump raising his finger to his nose to clear his nasal passages. These are strong symptoms of cocaine use.

Re: First Debate
Why would YouTube clip out the most telling sign of all?
You do realise, that if I'd said any of this about Clinton - had she been displaying any of the perceived signs of cocaine use, you'd have told me I was crazy?
And btw, I'm not totally dismissing you as I have no way of knowing if you're right or not, I'm just playing devils advocate, and, the list you supplied could also be the same if someone had nasal congestion caused by something else entirely.

Of course, but that's because Hillary Clinton shows no signs of cocaine use, and shows every sign of being a rational, composed individual.

Well, frankly that was my first thought. Like: Oh poor guy, he's really sick on this day of all days. But then in the back of my head came the thought: I've seen/heard this before...omg, he just snorted.
Then the sniffing tapered off, as it would if he's away from the source and can't take another hit. But, as you mentioned, he manifested a deepening depression after an hour-and-a-half. He rambled pointlessly about his 10-year old boy being good with computers, and made slips like admitting he pays no income tax, and openly lied about his promotion of the birther issue years after it was settled, and he lied about his support for the Iraq war. Anybody in their right mind would have finessed those questions and issues. Clearly, Trump was winding down, entering a post-euphoric depression.

To what end? RW'rs are not some sort of peculiar creature, genetically unlike the rest of us. RW'rs simply lack experience and practice with reason.
Every muscle and organ in the body must be exercised in order to keep it up and active. The mind is no different. There's nothing different about RW'rs minds...they just don't exercise it and hence it atrophies.
The effect of conservatism--rejecting change and accepting the status quo--is to breed a kind of laziness that leads to such non-use. If you are not actively involved in accepting, embracing, and indeed, creating change, you are letting your body and mind go. If your habit is to ignore societies problems, passing the challenges by, so that you can enjoy the selfish individualism that is conservatism, you are simultaneously letting your mind go.
Stupid is as stupid does, as Forrest's mom said.

It doesn't, save that you made yourself the example. What you were really espousing, I think, is the long-standing misinterpretation that RW'rs lack intelligence. I'm correcting that misapprehension: RW'rs don't lack intelligence, they lack practice with their intelligence.
RW'rs like to tuck themselves in with their selfish individualism, along with their possessiveness...or, that is, their love of possessions. This brings them in from exposure to the problems of the world. They like to shrug and commit those problems to (what I call) the abyss of nothingness. The poor. The sick. The disadvantaged. The uneducated. The targets of discrimination. Make them go away...toss them over the cliff.
By not engaging in the problem-solving of the world, RW'rs fail to exercise their minds and reasoning power. Anything that does not get exercised, gets atrophied. It's a common misapprehension that I'm saying that RW'rs are unintelligent. They're not, they are just lazy.

It was a reference to what Major always says...how the US is always to the right of Europe. Normally I never explain jokes, but Jules is asking, and she doesn't have as much experience with this board.
Jules, Major and I have this long-standing difference. Throwing Republicans out--which are under 30% of the voters in the US--America is much more liberal than Europe. We have freedom of expression, freedom of association, freedom to petition and address the government, and the right to demonstrate. Europe has much less, and it is much more constrained.
For some reason, Major keeps expounding that old 1950's idea that America is more to the right, just because the US didn't go through a socialist phase. I feel a lot safer speaking and writing in America, than I would in Europe, or any country thereof. The jab was a reference to that.
