Re: Where Would You Like To Retire?
That photo is gorgeous, /\ I can almost smell it.
I gave up work years ago....OH retired 3 years ago...life is great, touch wood it continues.
I feel sad for people who retire and feel life has finished, it's just begun in many ways.

Retirement should be the best years of your life.

Some of them definitely, as long as health and finances are OK.
Eddie, there are good times in every stage of life if you look for them. When my son was young and we had family holidays and good times with his nan (my mum) those times cant be beat.
I have to say my 40's (your age) were so good too ....son getting more independent, found a job I loved, new friends and experiences...
I honestly think some people take for granted what they have now in expectation for what they may have one day...if that makes sense.

Re: Where Would You Like To Retire?
I bet you have too.
I have had a few dodgy ones, but on the whole I have done OK.
I think if we don't have crappy times we cant appreciate the good ones as much.

Me too. I have no regrets on anything. I made the choices that were right at the time, if they went wrong, well it was worth the try.

Retirement? Seven years and you're dead.
I'd rather stay relevant.

Gabu Island, Victoria. Like Glyfada, Greece, where I lived.
Very nice.

Might be Fredericksburg, Texas, or pretty much anywhere in the Hill Country. Great people, great music, great food, and places that look like this:
I'd love to travel the world, but Texas will always be my home.

Re: Where Would You Like To Retire?
It's a beautiful place, and I particularly love El Paso.
You will understand my reservations, I trust.

I retired seventeen years ago, and rumours of my death are greatly exaggerated.

Eden
A lot of nice little "hidden gems" around Eden and Berry...
And reasonably close to the Snowfields..
("Ski in the morning, surf in the arvo..").
There's also some handy little valleys hidden away up between the Great Lakes, Gloucester and Dungog regions..
As for "retirement" --
I have no plans to actually retire, but rather to just fade away.

That looks very much like my lavender fields pic......and it's also photoshopped

Re: Where Would You Like To Retire?
Some lovely pics of idyllic places.
Since OH retired we spend a fair bit of time here.
If it had more in would be perfect.

Re: Where Would You Like To Retire?
I don't see the point in retiring somewhere where you have no friends or family. It might seem idyllic but without them, it would mean nothing to me.

Re: Where Would You Like To Retire?
That's a point I've often thought about HT. If I move out of London will it be too quiet for me, access to many things here too. We are looking into it and making sure we have everything near us and not moving too far from our family too.

My OH would emigrate to Spain tomorrow.....I agree about family, we don't have a big one but I cherish what we do have.

Me too Syl, I would have to go where I can see them as much. No way could I live abroad.
