And, I don't care what anyone says, men appreciate a woman who makes an effort.
I think men also like a bit of mystery. What lies beneath. I'm not so sure that it's really that sexy to show all the goods to all and sundry. What is sexy is that wink of thigh and stocking you may get when you cross your legs, or the swell of the breast exposed when you momentarily reach forwards. The serendipity of catching that elusive erogenous zone.
Speaking of which, I remember going to a boyfriend's work 'do'. I was sitting on my own while boyfriend was at the bar tentatively nibbling on a piece of fruit cake, and some dropped into my cleavage. Two blokes sitting opposite who I'd had never met before caught this faux pas as I daintily picked up the errant cake and popped it into my mouth. I glanced up at them, and they both, as one, jerked their heads away in studious embarrassment trying to pretend they hadn't seen. I burst out laughing and came out with some comment like 'I've got Lord Lucan down here'. We had a right good laugh over it. It certainly broke the ice.

Totally agree. I don't do the whole plastered make up look. Mascara always, lipstick most days, but not a big bright red. Gotta save that for a private audience or to make a statement.
I hate the plastered on look...I also hate foundation, it doesn't suit me and I think most women would look better without it....but it's a personal choice.
I would love to suit the red lipstick matching nails look....sadly I look more like Morticia than a sex goddess when I have tried to pull that one off.
I can't stand foundation. I've never worn it. I can't stand lip gloss either.

In any case you have misread what I said. Dressing nicely and applying make up is what most women do because they want to look and feel nice. I do it to please myself....as I suspect do most women.
Power dressing is another thing altogether.....and imo most women who dress this way do it because their job requires them to.
The caplocks was for only emphasis, not shouting. Only one word was caplocked and that is usually my limit.
I'm a long way behind those who routinely use the upper case in their posts, sometimes for full sentences.
The term 'power dressing' was coined for a reason, it's not a myth.
Beauty aids (in its many guises) confer power in the boardroom and bedroom.
This is why some feminists refuse the whole high heel, lipstick, big hair thing.
But hey it all boils down to opinion and personal preferences, we all do our own thing, no hard and fast rules.
I've always found, and this is purely my observation and experience, that most 'feminists' could plaster on the make up and strut down the street 'nekkid' and still look like a sack of spanners.

Power dressing was something women had to do in a business world where certain men thought they should still be behind the kitchen sink. Anyway, men do the same thing.

Snap re lipgloss (these threads are moving so fast tonight )......I hate shiny slimy lips, matte and natural is better....though I do like lip liner.
I have a friend who wont wear lip liner because she says it makes her look like a transvestite, and oddly it does.

I don't curry favour with anyone....take me or leave me.
Yes you do. From a superficial nod on a thread about a cute dog, to a gathering with your tag-teamers, you are always building your alliances. That is your main purpose here. I enjoy your chatty small talk at times, but when you gather for a growl you can be quite vicious. And you don't build that in a day...I see you grooming others for gang warfare all the time.
I admit that a lot of my posts are about boring subjects and can be far too tedious. But they are meant for people who are interested. Others should skip them. Some posters like "in-depth" discussions, others put them aside.Syl wrote:You don't analyse....you bore with endless pseudo intellectual waffle.
I enjoy differences, you are the one who turned various exchanges into personal insults not me...something has rattled your cage, perhaps you ought to look into that 'in depth' .
See? You are on a rant right now. This whole conversation started about an innocent topic of psychology....perhaps boring, but no acrimony. But you've turned it into a rant, because I presume you don't like the subject and me.
Perhaps you might take a look at a thread about "Trump throws Latino voters under the bus...", in the US Politics section, and see how to avoid turning a discussion into acrimony. You sure are not talking about psychology now.
You'll be advising her to 'take the 5th' next!

That was my response too....somewhere along the line the conversation abut women wearing make up and dressing nice turned into ball breaking power dressers.
Two different things, and I still say the majority of women want to look nice to please themselves and even give them confidence....but certainly not to gain power over anyone.

There's an element of moral flaccidity about men who claim all women dress to tease or attract them. As though they pass on the responsibility of their own lack of sexual control to the object of their desire.

Not much annoys me on forums, but the way Quill repeatedly deliberately used that word, then scarpered when I asked him who exactly I had 'groomed' on here ( the coward) shows him up imo.
It's totally untrue....and he obviously knows that why else would he choose not to answer?

Why not?
It's only natural that every thread digresses slightly.
This topic is about lookalikes, so if we were talking about "make up and dressing nice" it means the digression had already occurred from the main topic anyway, before the subject of power dressing came along.
It's always easy enough get back on topic, it only takes one post.

Did someone nick your password? You are one of the most enlightened and forward-thinking people I know, HT, so I am stunned that you are lowering yourself to a such a lazy stereotyped way of speaking. If a man had said this he'd be called a neanderthal.
Maybe you are confusing feminists with feminazis and aggressive militant lesbians?? Big difference!
Remember that anyone can be a "feminist" - man or woman, gay or straight. It's just a state of mind. All it takes to be a feminist is to have the mindset that women deserve independence and equality. This is why Corbyn said he was a feminist. It's nothing to do with aggression or ugliness.

Nope. Hairy legged beasts the lot of 'em.
Look at the state of Corbin. He needs a shave and a boil wash.
I'm all for women's rights, of course I am. I'm just yet to meet a feminine feminist who loves to dress up, wear make up and shave her pits. You're not a feminist if you want your man to empty the bins either.

It's interesting what would distinguish a woman who wants and expects equal rights and fair play to a feminist??
I'm not sure I know the difference.

Still having fun with feminist/lesbian clichés?
They need a wash? Do people still say things like that in the 21st century?
Police officers used to taunt feminists with these insults in the 80's during CND (women for nuclear disarmament ) protest marches.
I am not an expert on the feminist movement and I won't mention it again in this thread, but I do know a few feminists and they are all nurses and scrupulous cleanliness is like a religion to them. They don't need a wash.
Dunno about hairy armpits though. I don't stare that closely.

The pair are set to attend the 'Rough Night' film premiere together
Scarlett Johansson has invited a grandmother that looks like her to drink with her at the premiere of her new movie, Rough Night.
A photo recently went viral online after a grandson shared a picture of his 72-year-old grandmother, Geraldine, from when she was younger. “My Grandma Looked Like Scarlett Johansson When She Was Younger,” Denver Dodd wrote. See that photograph below

Thanks for posting the other one Thor.
Scarlet seems like a great girl, I hope Geraldine takes up her offer and they have a really good night out together.
