Songs that describe who you are
This is the song that showed me my mother and father loved each other (just from the way they acted when it came on the radio):
This is about getting my most beloved and everyone else I love together down in German Texas for music, food, drink and fun:
Sincerely, if there is a heaven, I choose that last scenario.

That one for your parents, simply lovely X
I didn't think Id like the next one but I really did. It's a real 'swinger' and I like the simplicity of it.
Going to have to think about my song(s).
Not that anyone listens

On this thread, I will. It's pretty intimate if you think about it
Re: Songs that describe who you are
Okay so I don't know if it describes "me" but the moment I heard this song it struck a chord and it's a song I always feel resonates with me. It's a "get drunk and sing it drunkenky whilst believing no one will ever get you" song
(I have a feeling there will be a few songs I post on here. I'm very complicated )

Re: Songs that describe who you are
Great song, I remember the angst it filled me with when I first heard it. Maybe it didn't land that way for you, but it's about letting go of what you think you know (to me). REM is one of my favorite groups, and they had a number of songs that resonated with me as well. Here's one:
Re: Songs that describe who you are
I have that album and yes, I know that song.
Losing my religion is a very deep song and always makes me stop, and listen.
I will have to have a think and add songs as they come to me but while we are in REM mode
The words are just a great love song

REM's songs touch a lot of people.
I have spent many hours identifying with "Everybody hurts" when I have been wallowing in misery.
Oddly it helps to know that others are suffering too.

I detest that song (sorry Syl) for two reasons: firstly it's a bit "obvious" for me and secondly, an ex played that on loop whilst I was packing my bags and moving out. It made me realise that I'd made the right choice and would never go back because even in the final moments of our break up, he still managed to irritate me.

Out of left field, I know -- but this song from six years ago perfectly describes how I felt after my dad died, I moved to an unfamiliar city to be closer to my girlfriend, my family was angry with me, my girlfriend turned out to be a violent sociopath, and I realized I had to blow it all up:
Re: Songs that describe who you are
That is a rough time. And "blowing it up" is what was needed I reckon.

Really old fashioned, even for me, but my Mum had a lovely voice and would sing this to my Dad

I like Linkin Park. This song seemed apt about a period in my life where I learned a lot about someone I later decided to write about. His life was short and tragic and well...I wrote a whole novel around him.

I recognise some of that because after my dad died I felt as I had spent so much time away from home that I should have been there more often.

Re: Songs that describe who you are
I wasn't born in Texas -- my Texan dad moved us here when I was about 5. Driving with him through the countryside of southwest Texas, this song was probably the moment I started to fall in love with the state, even if I didn't realize it then:
I didn't really realize what desolate beauty was until I saw that country, and this song goes along with it perfectly.

Ben that song reminds me of a Neil Diamond song.
It's really nice. A very early morning, sunset kinda song.

That's John Denver, and it's a beautiful song. Love it, here, I'll post it for you:
Good choice, nicko.
Here's who I am:
Re: Songs that describe who you are
I think it's this. I've over-intellectualised it and over-thought it (great thread btw) but I keep coming back to this.
I'm not sure what it means but I know it's this, and if anyone can tell me what it means for me, I'd be grateful.

To me, this song can be about something different every time you listen to it -- maybe that's why you identify with it?

It's a really good song. Maybe it shouldn't be REM's most recognizable song, but it is great.
My vote, btw, for what should be their most recognizable song:
That one hits home for me, for whatever reason.

Since Dad passed away, Mom can't listen to this song without crying (she still listens to it sometimes, though)

Ah ... as it turns out, that song has a similar effect on me. So I'm going to post a song my dad loved to kind of even things out ...

This is even less like Chopin ...
Wrong thread for that reference? Blame the Martin House Brewing Co. of Fort Worth, Texas. They didn't have to make Imperial Texans with 9 percent ABV.

Oh my god yes. Absolutely. Perhaps I need two songs to describe me?
Both these songs can bring me to tears and goosebumps. I'm glad they hit someone else the way they hit me.
I play this song a lot.
