Labour MP sorry for saying ‘the only people who have coloured skin, if you like, run takeaways’

LABOUR was plunged into a new racism storm tonight as a senior MP said the only people with “coloured skin” in his area are “people who run takeaways”.

Former minister Wayne David’s appalling gaffe came hours after party leader Jeremy Corbyn sparked global Jewish outrage for appearing to compare Israel to Islamic State terrorists.

Caerphilly MP Wayne David’s comments have plunged Labour into yet another race row

And there was fresh fury today as footage emerged of Mr Corbyn laughing with Momentum activist Marc Wadsworth just minutes after he abused Jewish MP Ruth Smeeth.

Caerphilly MP Mr David was forced to issue a grovelling apology after being blasted for his “extremely offensive” remarks which came during a radio discussion about immigration.

Asked “how much of an issue” immigration was in the Welsh town, he said: “Well, in terms of numbers it’s not an issue.

"I mean, I think the only people who have coloured skin, if you like, are people who run takeaways




Did this Labour MP say anything wrong, if so why?

Maybe if he had said black skin he would have gotten away with it.

I get that he's trying to make two points: 1) his community does not have an over abundance of coloreds; and 2) the only thing that coloreds are good for is working in take-aways...which keeps them out of our way.

Suppose I said: we don't have a colored problem, we keeps 'em busy out in the cotton fields?  The fact of the 'we-they' reference is bad enough, but to say everything is all right because they are kept outta our way working on trash jobs...ehhhh, that's a bit of gratuitous profiling.

He never claimed this is the only thing they are good for, you invented that, based on your own opinion, which is ironic considering you always sterotype ethnic groups yourself and have been ousted for doing such things.; It was the phrase "coloured" that is the problem here as its now Politically incorrect.
It was most definately a naive comment and based on him having a sterotypical view that there are not many ethnic people in the area, and the only ones he has seen were in take aways

From my understanding, he was going back to an old racist stereotype about "colored people" in the UK -- we don't have it in the U.S., but we do have similar things, like black people love chicken, etc.

We don't even call them "coloureds" anymore - that's a kind of 50's throwback

Yeah, it's pretty much saying that white people are the default, and others had something done to their skin.

An analogy would be white people called "bleached" in a mostly black area.

In those places ethnic minorities are not really a minority anymore.

Apart from using the term "coloured" which is presently deemed un PC...as no doubt the more popular term 'Black' will become in the future....I think he seems to be pigeon holing Blacks, or Asians...or whoever he was meaning, into one little niche instead or realising they are part of society.
