Farage on Brexit: we won “without a single bullet being fired” (Really?)
The results of the historic Brexit vote are in: Britain has voted to leave the European Union. And everyone is stunned — including, apparently, United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, who was the main driving force behind the pro-Brexit movement.
At least, I’m hoping he was stunned, and that’s the reason he made the shockingly tasteless remark that the "Leave" campaign won the vote "without a single bullet being fired."
Coming mere days after the horrific murder (by bullet, as well as a knife) of the young British member of Parliament Jo Cox — by a man who early indications suggest may have been motivated by Cox’s pro-immigrant and anti-Brexit stance — Farage’s "victory speech" is beyond the pale.
One hopes it was nothing more than an unfortunate but innocent gaffe on Farage’s part. Given Farage’s many other disrespectful, inflammatory, and outright racist statements, however, one fears this reference to a bullet being fired was anything but innocent.
Either way, if the past is any guide, Farage may well decide, now that the British press and social media are skewering him for his "crass" statement, that blaming his choice of words on his being stunned or tired after a long night of poll watching may be good idea.

If the murder of Jo Cox had swayed the public into voting to stay, you would have been cheering, right? Don't bother to accuse Mr Farage of being distasteful.

Whatever the outcome was, that remark was utterly ill conceived and totally tasteless, not to mention inaccurate.

To me personally?
Well, I work in the newspaper industry, which tends to react to any whiff of economic turbulence by laying off ten percent of its workforce, just to be on the safe side.
I also kind of care about my other fellow Americans, and Earthlings, and the financial insecurity that has been unleashed upon them by a bunch of British senior citizens throwing a hissy fit.

Sorry about that, but this is our country, not your country. Nobody was going to vote to please the yanks.
Why you and Sassy have to be so rude about "old" people is a mystery. Your ageism is showing though ...

Yes, you're right -- it was a very selfish act. The funny thing will be to watch it bring Britain to its knees, rather than fixing anything. I imagine a lot of people, all around the world, will be laughing about that.

Please stop twisting my words, Miffs. I and the other "colonials" (you got your asses kicked by a colony then) have been saying that the UK would be nothing without the EU -- the fact that you were last in the G7 but first in the EU backs me up on that -- and that if you leave, your country will suffer.
It also happens that your country's suffering could cause others around the world to suffer, but you've already made it abundantly clear you couldn't give a half a squat about anybody but the British, so we'll skip over that. We'll probably recover -- you may very well not.

Definition of Irony.
In the US they celebrate self determination through the defeat of the British with independence day. Where they broke away from at that time, one of the worlds powerful nations, Britain at the timre.. They did not want to be apart of Britain. Where no doubt in the day, people would have been doing what you are doing now claiming it would be a disaster for the US.
Britain breaks away from the EU, that much more powerful than the UK, as in both situations in history, America was denied the abilityto govern itself independently and we see the same thing today, where the Uk cannot have complete control over its decision making, laws and policies, when they have little choice but to follow the EU bully here, as they make the defining Policies throughout the EU
So I find it again ironic and again a double standard, that in both situationsboth the US and now Britain have removed themseoves from other bullies who had taken control of the people and were not residents of those nations

As an aside, MPs are now pointing out that it isn't binding and that they don't have to do it, considerig the Leave campaign have now admitted to lying through their teeth, and the petition for a new vote have reached 2 Million.

Which means that a number of people clearly do not understand our laws or back democracy.
Where again another referendum, would no doubt likley achieve the same result and then countless money would be wasted to organize another referendum, simply because some people wantto enforce their views onto others, when they lose a vote.
The referendum is binding by the simple reality, that no Governemnt would then go back on such a vote, as it would then render its ability to uphold demcracy as in conflict.
You really need to move on.

Re: Farage on Brexit: we won “without a single bullet being fired” (Really?)
Regardless of what a Government might do, the referendum is NOT legally binding
The EU referendum result is not legally binding so in theory Parliament could ignore the will of the people by deciding to stay in the EU.
This is because Parliament is sovereign and the EU vote was an “advisory referendum”, as opposed to a “binary” referendum which has a fixed outcome.
Legislation for the UK’s last referendum in 2011 would have forced the Government to change the law if the public had voted for a new voting system.
