'I' am not fond of 'DARK WATER', period; yet where I learned to swim my pops used to burn the leaches off of us when we were done for the day outing at our favorite swimming hole on the Neosho River. Would that be me in that murky water at night - OH, HELL NO!

Whether it be the things like snakes/alligators/crocs in Florida - finding them in your pool or private gated community lake; there are just natural hazards that we all become accustomed too - acceptable risk factors to living where we do! pale

they say on TV New Zealand born but we have had the EU like free travel arrangements with New Zealand for decades, they said she has been living up there in the Northern Territory for like 17 years.

and even watching it, seeing nothing means you probably shouldn't swim
seeing fresh water crocs, or pigs in the water means it is probably safe.
they can hurt you but neither will hunt you

yes but even if they don’t stay under there is every chance you missed it 'surface' as it only need the nostrils to actually surface. they are ambush predators and remarkably good at stealth for such a large animal.

It has to be remembered that beach is located at a remote stretch of coastline, several hundred miles north from Brisbane, with only a few hundred locals living there..
You have to go more than a thousand miles north from here, to find those Salties..

And where most people won't go swimming once the sun "drops below the yard'arm..".

So the answer is not so much to 'cull' them but grow the market to a sustainable level so it is economic to dedicate sections of wetland to raising them..
