Lightning strikes kill one in Poland, injure 11 at Paris children's party and hit dozens more at German football match
Three children and an adult were fighting for their lives on Saturday after they were among 11 people struck by lightning during a birthday party in a Paris park.
Another child and an adult were seriously injured, but their lives were not in danger. Five others — four children and an adult — were slightly injured.
In southern Poland a man in his forties was killed when he was struck by lightning as he descended the Babia Gora mountain, local media said.
In another freak incident 35 people were injured by a lightning bolt during a football match in Germany. The lightning struck at the end of a children's match in the town of Hoppstaedten.
The referee, who was hit directly, was rushed to hospital by helicopter. Two other adults also suffered serious injuries. Thirty children aged between nine and 11 were mildly injured and taken to hospital for tests, along with two more adults. The children in Paris were hit by lightning after seeking shelter under a tree from a sudden thunderstorm. The victims were rushed to hospital after horrified bystanders called the emergency services.

Now that seems extremely ludicrous, that in this day of electronic sensors just for such things ...these events are being held without such devices at the activities!
Lightening Bolt Sensors >
Personal type - all of our public schools carry now for any outdoor activity on an overcast day: soccer/baseball/softball/field trips/track & field events >
Public Broadcast System >

To be honest 4ever, we don't even have them here in AZ even with the Monsoons. Weve already had a few fires this season so far mostly human caused but a few were dry lightening. But I totally get those living in Tornado Alley needing them. European and UK weather patterns are not as extreme as ours normally.

True, Cass...but it's pretty irresponsible for regions that have any outdoor activity especially for paying public or invited guests to attend a function and 'NOT HAVE' such devices on hand during storm seasons!
We have those 'dry lightening' surprise occasions that appear without the thunderhead telltale clouds as well.
