Sorry about the last post. I was just curious to see how much time had elapsed since I made my original post.

3 1/2 hours and over 70 views within that period...
I think this is the quietest I've EVER seen this site, in regards to the viewed/response ratio. Most of you would have trounced at an opportunity to tell me how wrong I am by now. Instead, you're still trying to sort out your thoughts. If that video hit home, it should.

I'm an Independent and he spoke exactly what most Independents think. To his right was a stupid liberal. Yes, ALL liberals are idiots. ALL of them. To his left was a flag-waving conservative. They are ALL equal idiots. Sure, it's a clip from a Hollywood show. And it's unfortunate and pathetic that a Hollywood show is the ONLY place where you would find a non-biased and Independent "person" speak their mind in such a public forum... aside from me on this small platform. But let's be realistic: nobody's post on this site is going to make a political impact in the grand scheme of things. It's much bigger than just a handful of us.

Liberals suck. They are a waste of space. Conservatives suck. They, too, are a waste of space. Each tries to divide our nation into opposing parties that detest each other. If you are either, you are part of the problem. Your "beliefs" be damned. Screw you both. Develop an Independent thought for once and perhaps you won't have half the world looking at you like you're political fan boi.

Be Independent and vote with your conscience... not with what your cult compels you to.

the answer is it has been too over run with 'conservative values' like Europe it is become set in it's traditions and become slower to adapt the changing world.

Frankly, IT…everyone is just like you. Everyone occupies a small spot in time and space, figuratively as well as literally. Pluralism defines us that way. We each have our own independent collection of beliefs—the collection, singular and unlike anyone else’s—but overlapping each other’s beliefs one-by-one.

The difference is, we’re not angry like you. We see the kinship in our overlapping beliefs, rather than despising other people, both to the left and the right, for not being exactly like us (you)!

There might people with poor quality beliefs, like Donald Trump, whose positions are knee-deep in horseshit and completely self-contradictory. Or there might be people who scare us, like Ted Cruz, who flirts with the dangerous undemocratic, fascist right. But we know how to take care of the riff-raff: find a compromise and vote.

Okay, now as for you: if any one of us took your advice and became “independent thinkers” (which, btw, we do), you would still say we are detested, because we, and each of us, are either to the left or right of you. For you, that is repugnant …so, the nature of your independent thinking is that you simply don’t like anyone else.

So independent thought becomes lonely thought. Therein is the source of your disenchantment. You need some friends, but you use 'independence' to build a wall (hmmm...on building walls, you should speak with Donald Trump, and Anonymous has released his phone number, but I don't know where). You need an attitude adjustment...fewer walls, more bridges.

If you are unhappy about your loneliness, well you own that problem, not us. Consult a physician...at least stop hating everyone.

It's hard not to share Mr. Daniel's frustration, but he's really not saying anything. He's mouthing some extemporaneous gripes that he has, with no systemic point to explain.

If you want to take into your grasp that big a scope, the world is simply too large and complex for a single president, or a single party to cure everything. He dribbles out single points and statistics, but does not go into any 'cause and effect' analysis. Frankly, I think he is angry at being put on the spot, and this clip is nothing more than his searching for a position that makes him look good--kinda like combing his hair. He doesn't even know who he is angry at: The professor? The sorority girl? The elevator music being played in the background?

Indy, liberalism IS common sense. Conservatism is, as Karl Rove so aptly and infamously put it, not part of the "reality-based community."

Liberalism is based squarely on two all-American tenets -- freedom from governmental interference in one's personal life, and the notion that the government exists to serve the greatest good of the greatest number. Or, in more noble-sounding prose:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal ...

and

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Created equal? Bullshit, the right says. Minorities, gay people, women, non-Christians and immigrants are not equal to the so-called real Americans to conservatives. The record is clear.

Promote the general welfare? Conservatives have turned welfare into a dirty word. Talk to a conservative about income inequality and the standard response is, "so what?" Talk to him about a power structure set up to make white male Christian property owners the most powerful people in the country, and they will honestly try to convince you that the difference between the opportunities available to Donald Trump and those available to a black lesbian born into poverty is that Trump worked harder.

Conservatism is childish, simplistic nonsense, and un-American to boot.

Punked?…you pamper yourself. We get that. But it’s obvious that YOU are trying to overcome your big failure. One thing points that out more than anything: you consume your whole address to me with trying to convince yourself that you won something. That shows that you don’t believe that…you’re still trying.

First, he doesn’t make the same point that you wish to make, but you don’t even realize it. He’s saying we (Americans) are arrogant to assume we are the greatest nation; you are saying we are the greatest, save a temporary pause that Donald Trump can fix. McAvoy was trying to ridicule the premise of the question, while you are one of the featherheads taking it seriously.

Second, when McAvoy comes to discussing the remedies, he speaks of attitudes, none of which are the conservative ones you champion. Indeed, he refers to liberal issues of vigor, fairness and caring. No conservative cares about anything but him or herself, so greatness is not even a feasible RW value…self-interest is what conservatives seek. And that's no grander than a single soul.

So let’s not look to the Donald Trump values of exiling Muslims, vilifying and deporting Hispanics, insulting women, demeaning POWs, ridiculing the disabled, disparaging homosexuals and think that somewhere in that morass we are going to build bridges, a national highway system, or produce great novelists, poets or great inventions. All innovation, and salvation, comes from the left.

The reason why the right doesn’t realize this is they are still thinking in terms of destructive selfishness, winning and losing, conflicts and wars…all the selfish values. Half the picture is missing. They don’t think for inspiration. They don’t find a need and fill it, as Henry J. Kaiser used to say. They don’t think socially, least of all for social needs. They just think of themselves, their ass and the line they can draw around it.

America does indeed have an anchor around its neck. It’s called conservatism. The Republicans--the party of conservatism--is the same do-nothing party that works, not to govern, but to obfuscate and obstruct. But buoyancy the left will prevail. There comes a point in which the left is the only choice; the right has had their chance and fooked it up. We will think our way out of the morass, and thinking won’t come from conservatives...they don't know how.
