Private Medical Treatment

My friend has a excruciating pain in his knee, his GP sent for a hospital appointment for him.
Pain so bad he got a private appointment next day, dead chuffed.
Gave him X-ray, examination, found although pain was in knee it came from a very worn hip. Consultant advised he could inject his hip and the pain would go but return at sometime maybe a few days or weeks, no guarantees, he happily took the injection advice.
Today the pain has really lessened, manageable.
He was given an invoice for this amount which had to be paid in full immediately preferably by CARD which they insist upon prior to examination

Xray 85
Total £470

IYO was this £470 worth it?

IYO is this £10000 worth having the operation next week and not having to wait?

Was it a steroid injection? He could have had that done on the NHS. If it was a steroid injection, the pain will come back and you can't really keep having them, but it depends on how long he would have to wait for the op.

Paying private means you get seen pretty much immediately.
We used to have BUPA but when I really though about it, if there was a serious accident etc then the patient would be taken to A&E anyway.

I'd pay private if I or anyone close had a serious disease.

It is expensive but boy it can be worth it!

The surgeon who did it also operates privately....same op same surgeon one free one costs many thousands.
If your friends hip is not unbearably painful I would wait if I was him and spend the money he has saved on a lavish trip abroad.

Yep. Bit of sun sea and sangria will cure a bad anything!

Dunno which type injection Miss Ragga but he would have had to wait for an appointment at the hospital, he could not stand the pain and paid for injection next day..

If you are REALLY desperate for IMMEDIATE private treatment do this.

Phone the private sector secretary and ask who does certain types of treatment/operations, tell you must see someone that day, you cannot stand the pain any longer and you will cut ya throat, say she is ya last hope.
Say you are available NOW, can be there within the hour and I guarantee she will help, fit you in.
Done it several times and with dentist and not just for myself.

It sounds like a steroid injection. They're commonly used for that kind of thing, but steroids should be used with caution because they can have side effects, although I think there's less risk with local injections. It might be worth him speaking to his GP to see if he can have another one later, or if the pain can be managed whilst he waits. Mind you, I don't know how long the waiting lists are these days.

If you insist on seeing a private consultant here you can usually get in within a few days but ya gotta keep attem, I have even gone straight to the office for our dorta and dorta in law for the same op.
