Scientists 'find cancer's Achilles heel'
Scientists believe they have discovered a way to "steer" the immune system to kill cancers.Researchers at University College, London have developed a way of finding unique markings within a tumour - its "Achilles heel" - allowing the body to target the disease.
But the personalised method, reported in Science journal, would be expensive and has not yet been tried in patients.
experts said the idea made sense but could be more complicated in reality.
However, the researchers, whose work was funded by Cancer Research UK, believe their discovery could form the backbone of new treatments and hope to test it in patients within two years.
They believe by analysing the DNA, they'll be able to develop bespoke treatment.
People have tried to steer the immune system to kill tumours before, but cancer vaccines have largely flopped.
One explanation is that they are training the body's own defences to go after the wrong target.
The problem is cancers are not made up of identical cells - they are a heavily mutated, genetic mess and samples at different sites within a tumour can look and behave very differently.

'Exciting'
They grow a bit like a tree with core "trunk" mutations, but then mutations that branch off in all directions. It is known as cancer heterogeneity.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-35718491

WHAT a load of rot !!!
TO even think that health and pharmaceutical concerns, and society in general, would somehow make more money from allowing people to suffer and die, than from finding cures ?
THOSE ignorant opinions demonstrate paranoia, gullibility and stupidity beyond comprehension !

One only has to look at the way doctors are given reward incentives for handing out certain drugs when alternatives could be discussed or offered to realise why some people might suspect this to be so. Let's not kid ourselves that drugs companies make huge profits out of illness. And they're not above charging extortionate prices either, if they were that humane, they'd make it affordable for all. However, some companies are not all profit driven.
In my opinion, drugs are dished out too much when alternatives in lifestyle could be offered. Why do you think they are now having to cut back on antibiotics...because for years they've been giving them out too freely. Not only that, it's in the food chain. But that's another issue....
A cure for cancer would be hugely marketable, so I don't think anything would stand in its way. Insurance companies having to pay out for deaths by cancer would have a say in it too, would they allow a block to a cure? There would be royal stink, I should imagine.
