People talk as if having to wait at A&E is a new thing. It's not a new thing. I remember having to wait for ages in the '70s. I also remember only having to wait for five minutes in the '90s. It all depends on how many people turn up at a given time.
Obviously, if there are 450 patients turning up in one day, they're going to have to wait, and if they can possibly wait to see their GP they should go home. Regardless of how long people have to wait to see their GP, they should not turn up at A&E unless it's an emergency.
I've had to wait for ages at the GP too - because someone came in with what turned out to be a life-threatening issue. I didn't run around screaming and complaining, I just waited.

I wonder WHY so many flood to A&E?.
If it were not so difficult to see your own competent GP people would not go to hospital for trivial things.
Would you have gone away?
Healthcare is a legal right in the UK, isn't it?

A lot of the time people go to A and E with trivial things. Triage is necessary.

Some people run to the doctors and a&e for nothing!
I've seen mums taking their kids to A&E when all they have is a bloody cold! One mum said to me "he's had this cough for two weeks!"
Erm yeah, coughs last at least four weeks!??
I bet half of those I'm A&E wer fine

What is needed are many more small minor injury units.
I bust a thumb joint last year.Saw nurse, had X-Ray ,diagnosed small fracture. Heavy strapping.Sorted after an hour.
It wasn't an accident or emergency.

Seems like a very pragmatic solution; If you aren't indeed in dire straights and needing emergency attention then by all means 'GO HOME'! Sitting in ANY WAITING ROOM for long periods of time just makes you become exposed to anything/everything/serious bacteria that you'd never be exposed to in any other situation!!!
A & E = accident & emergency name in the UK
Emergency Room = ER here in the USA
Emergency Services = ES in Quebec {at least it was when my husband lived there}.
But 450 on any given day; almost sounds like a really serious flu/virus epidemic of some kind - UGHHHH
