Anti-gay group tries to sabotage event for LGBTQ teens, accidentally donates thousands of dollars
The efforts of an antigay group hoping to sabotage an annual LGBTQ teen dance have backfired, contributing thousands of dollars to the event they meant to derail.
The Victorian Same Sex Gender Diverse Formal in Australia is meant to give a safe space for teens who don’t identify as straight to celebrate and create happy memories.
Attendees wear what they want, bring who they want, dance with whomever they want.
Minus 18, the group that throws the event, decided this year to crowdfund tickets for teens who couldn’t afford the $40 admission price.
Enter an antigay group (actually) named… The Stop Safe Schools Coalition.
The organization fights against the federal Government-funded Safe Schools Coalition Australia program – a “coalition of schools and organizations that aim to foster safe and inclusive environments for same-sex attracted, intersex, and gender diverse students, staff and families.”
Stop Safe Schools caught wind of Minus 18’s event, and devised a plan, calling upon their members to buy up as many tickets as they could after thinking they’d discovered a loophole that said the tickets were nontransferable and nonrefundable.
[They] overlooked one detail: the ticketing program is set up as a crowdfunding system.
Every ticket “purchased” is guaranteed to go to a LGBTQ teen to attend the event.
http://www.lgbtqnation.com/2016/02/due-to-gaffe-antigay-hate-group-raises-thousands-of-dollars-for-lgbtq-teen-gala/
They'd originally hoped to raise $15,000 but are now over $30,000 and are upgrading to a larger venue

"...the federal Government-funded Safe Schools Coalition Australia program – a “coalition of schools and organizations that aim to foster safe and inclusive environments for same-sex attracted, intersex, and gender diverse students, staff and families..."
Taxpayers money should not be being used to fund (and effectively be promoting) this type of thing... schools should not be facilitating or encouraging this either.
And ironically it is promoted as providing "inclusive" environments, while only focusing on funding events for a specific minority sub section of the tax paying public and discriminating against all those who don't fit the set profiling criteria...

So will there be a load of anti-gay people at the event or what?

They're not allowed... something to do with being different and so discriminated against... all in the name of equality and 'inclusiveness'... and probably diversity too!!!
And about how important it is for events to be representative of the public at large and not be excluding large sections of the demographic public... etc...

So people who buy tickets aren't actually allowed to go to the event? That sounds weird.

I just looked at the actual website. People can buy a ticket or they can sponsor a ticket. Did the anti-gay people click on "sponsor a ticket" rather than "buy a ticket"?

Well its blatantly obvious why a policy has been introduced in some Australian schools. As based on your prejudice, nonsense above, with a lack of understanding homosexuals face hate crimes and bullying within schools. This policy sets out to help create schools that have a far greater understanding to help already enrolled students, who are homosexual. As seen by your nonsense above such initiatives are needed. As this initiative sets out to tackle bullying. As this group, once a school signs up, has then their full support to help on all matters on LGTB students
So what you are claiming above is that there should not be support groups that tackle bullying and discrimination, as their expertise is founded on LGTB issues
So not only was your claims above are absolutely babble. There is many minority groups specializing on a specific problem, and are thus guides to help the school. Not sure how they can channel that support for other minorities when they clearly lack expertise on other groups, further proving your view points were bitter and absurd
Here, you can educate yourself on your failings here

Then after a little further investigation. You can seen that this group "Stop Safe, School Coalition are a complete contradiction. They first of all claim they are concerned that this group centers on LGTB. Which is a reasonable question to ask, but if you are against such a group that does help against bullying. Then how and why have they not formed their own anti bullying initiative to cater for everyone? So what do they do instead, petition having this one stopped. So the claim on bullying from them is bull and they are telling porky pies obviously. Surely if your goal was to help all who suffer bullying, then all that is needed is a an initiative that assists all minority groups. It proves that cl,aim is nothing more than a sham, as for their real anti-stance here and can you guess what it is?
Well when you again look further, the parent organisation for this anti group is:
Family Voice Australia
A Christian prejudice organisation.
http://www.fava.org.au/
You have to laaugh at their contradiction again in its opening statemented:
We partner with churches as a Christian voice to our nation upholding family, faith and freedom. We seek to honour God's name and advance His kingdom. We promote God's wise ways for a healthy society where marriage is honoured, human life is respected, families can flourish and fundamental freedoms are enjoyed.
They fundamentally deny these freedoms based on their beliefs
http://www.fava.org.au/about-us/beliefs/
So to sum up, the help group, is there to help and assist. Its not there to demonize other minority groups or promote hate against other minority groups. Where more groups are clearly needed to support all other issues a\round bullying and hate with minority groups. Whilst the anti-group as seen is based on deception, where it is their religious beliefs driving their bigoted stance here

It's funding for a party Dodge. .
One that discriminates against everyone else.
If it was a whites only party then you would be up in arms!
Govt funding should not be used for such things.
And homosexuality should not be promoted in schools to children!

Re: Anti-gay group tries to sabotage event for LGBTQ teens, accidentally donates thousands of dollars
It does not discriminate, it specializes for the many different groups that form up LGTB
Not concerned what you think, but what you can justify with any reason, why this group should not support LGBT kids in schools. As seen there is no reason not to accept their help, when the schools have LGTB children. If your objection is to other groups being neglected. Then either look up and you will see there is other groups, so the more the merrier.
http://www.bullyingnoway.gov.au/
And if you are still unhappy, gets someone to start another one up
Other than that your points were absurd and full of backward prejudice

Are there a lot of white kids in Australia who get bullied for being white?
Re: Anti-gay group tries to sabotage event for LGBTQ teens, accidentally donates thousands of dollars
It is not about support services it is govt funding for a party!
One which discriminates against non LGBT.
And being promoted as being 'inclusive'!!!

It's not about stopping bullying Didge. .. it is about promoting homosexuality to children and putting on special party's for them with tax payers money!

Nonsense again, its about helping understand homosexuality. in regards to some of their fellow pupils.
Homosexuality is not against the law in Australia, so your view on promoting is again blatantly absurd.
This group is there for support and help

It's using tax payers money to give special treatment to only some and discriminates against others based on sexuality!
Also it is wrong to promote homosexuality to children.

Re: Anti-gay group tries to sabotage event for LGBTQ teens, accidentally donates thousands of dollars
So what?
Do you know how much tax payers money is given to countless other support groups in Australia?
I suggest you do some research and again their support is specialist support as their expertise is in LGBT
You are the last person to decide what is right and wrong, especially as your views are just absurd. For a start, your view promotes inequality and those goes against western values
