In the news recently.. Barbie has expanded, not only is shape and size either. There are now Barbie dolls to suit different body types and ethnicity.

Good. I wasn't being entirely sarcastic when I posted that. I do actually think that Barbie dolls give a bad impression, and of course the girls who have them are very young. It's good that they're more realistic now.
I'm not bothered about the ethnicity really.

Re: Gollywogs
Apparently if the original Barbie was a real life sized woman she would be deformed and unable to walk properly.

Exactly - a huge head and tiny body.
I didn't have a Barbie, I had a Sindy - in fact I still have her. She was much more wholesome - still too skinny though.

Re: Gollywogs
I had neither, I liked a more robust doll.
Actually my favourite doll when I was a kid was a black doll made of plastic, I called her Nancy. She was a bonny baby, not a stick thin woman like doll.

That's the trouble with dolls which are supposed to be adults. They designed them with a child's figure in mind, and then added boobs. At least dolls which looked like babies were more realistic.

I have Sindy's boyfriend and sister too. I also had Tressy and her sister, Toots. They have hair which grows very quickly on the click of a button - I wish I could do that.

I had Sindy too. And also, oddly enough, a Farrah Fawcet Majors doll
And, I'm sure I'm remembering this correctly, but a Dusty Springfield doll??

It's only really come to me tonight, the memory.
I'm wondering if I called her Dusty and have got muddled?
I'll ask my mum tomorrow - if she even remembers herself!

There was a doll called Dusty - maybe it's that one?
Dusty was made in 1974 or 1975 and had a mate called Skye.
