School in Sweden Teaches Pupils Israel Doesn’t Exist Empty School in Sweden Teaches Pupils Israel Doesn’t Exist

Post by Guest Tue Feb 02, 2016 12:17 am

A commentary in Arutz Sheva, Israel National News, “Indoctrinating Swedish children” (Jan. 28 2016) charges a Swedish school with attempting to teach children anti-Israel bias and hated. Author Tobias Petersson, chairman of the Swedish pro-Israel organization Perspective on Israel (PPI), warns of textbooks that have been distributed in the city of Malmo, Sweden by a non-governmental organization.

Petersson says the “Swedish pro-Palestinian NGO Palestinian Centre for Justice (PRC) recently began to educate children in one or more schools” in the city.
In 2006, PRC arranged a conference in which Ismail Haniyeh spoke. Haniyeh is the leader of Gaza Strip-based Hamas, a U.S-designated terrorist group. According to Petersson, the PRC is slated to hold another of these conferences, entitled “Palestinians in Europe” in 2016.

In June 2015, the PRC vice chairman held a meeting with Margot Wallstrom, currently Sweden’s foreign minister. Wallstrom has been criticized for her Jan. 12, 2016 remarks which falsely alleged that Israelis shooting Palestinian attackers were potentially guilty of “summary executions.”
The textbook distributed by the PRC is called “To Palestine I Belong.” Written entirely in Arabic, the book shows a map that depicts all of Israel and territories ruled by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas as Palestine. Some Israeli cities are still shown—however Tel Aviv, is not.

Jewish history in the land of Israel before the 1917 Balfour Declaration is completely erased, whereas Muslim activity in the region is depicted. The book refers to Jewish presence in Israel as “the occupation” and accuses the country of harboring a “dangerous plan” to destroy the “Palestinian cause” via “war crimes against the land, the people and the holy shrines.” Israel is also falsely charged with preventing Palestinian Arabs from working, stealing land and enacting “Judaization” projects to erase Islamic history in Jerusalem.

In what Petersson calls the “most controversial part of the textbook,” the 1987-1994 intifada in which Palestinian Arabs attacked Israelis, both civilians and soldiers, is described as brave children fighting the “Zionist machines and soldiers with their bare chests.” Petersson notes that this language directly mirrors that of Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri. Terrorist attacks against Israelis are praised in the book as a “heroic saga.”
According to Petersson, in November and December 2015, the PRC Facebook page displayed photographs of teaching sessions with this textbook—only to remove them after journalists started asking questions. Other images show PRC rallies at which the Jewish Star of David is depicted—but made of barbed wire.

Swedish Foreign Minister Wallstrom has cited her government’s unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state as proof of “consideration and solidarity” with Muslims. Sweden recently has accepted thousands of Muslim immigrants, some of whom were fleeing the Syrian civil war. In a Jerusalem Post Op-ed, Petersson notes that Wallstrom’s statements on “solidarity” with the Islamic world (a notional concept for a divided, violence-torn region) frequently begin with an emphasis on her government’s recognition of a Palestinian state—to “show how good Sweden is for Muslims (“Wallstrom has to resign,” Nov. 21, 2015).”

According to the terms of the 1990s Oslo peace accords—which Sweden supported—recognition of a Palestinian state must be the result of bilateral negotiations with Israel. U.S. and Israeli offers for a “two-state solution” in exchange for peace with and recognition of Israel made in 2000, 2001 and 2008, were all rejected by Palestinian Arab leaders, without any counter-offers. This may render Wallstrom’s recognition of a Palestinian state when none exists and may not be the main goal of Palestinian leaders, premature at best, an obstacle to peaceful coexistence at worst.
What the Palestinian leaders rejected in favor of launching and continuing the anti-Jewish violence of the second intifada, the Swedish foreign minister and an anti-Israeli NGO also apparently reject: a peaceful “two-state solution.” Instead they take Palestinian rejectionism as a given, implicitly treat anti-Israeli, anti-Jewish terrorism as acceptable and seek to indoctrinate Swedish children in those views. By erasing Israel from the map, the PRC and its supporters are doing more than just echoing the rhetoric of groups like Hamas or Fatah’s al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades—they’re serving the strategic aims of terrorist groups.

By using text books that advance that line, Sweden’s second largest city—from which many members of its 700-strong Jewish community fled because of antisemitic harassment half-a-dozen years ago—supports efforts to make not only itself, but also the Middle East, judenrein.

That is so disingenuous and the worst pseudo revisionist bullshit history ever allowed to be taught in schools, since the Hitler Youth  in Nazi Germany

And on the subject of Sweden

Following Palestinian Media Watch director Itamar Marcus' presentation of PMW findings on Palestinian Authority and Fatah hate incitement and terror promotion to opposition MPs, Swedish MP Mikael Oscarsson (Christian Democrats) called to reconsider Sweden's aid to the PA:

"The [Swedish] government has decided to double its aid to Palestine after the recognition [as a state], but we cannot just continue to give money without taking this hate propaganda into account."
[Världen Idag (Swedish daily),Jan. 20, 2016]

MP Oscarsson had invited Itamar Marcus to Swedish Parliament to inform Swedish MPs about the content of Palestinian messaging and its impact on terror and peace. MP Oscarsson suggested that because of Sweden's role as a major donor to the PA, it is also Sweden's obligation to question PA policies and conduct in light of PMW's "important information":

"The purpose of the meeting [with PMW's Itamar Marcus] was for the MPs to receive important information. Sweden is a large contributor to Palestine and therefore we must also present counterclaims [to the PA]."

[Dagen (Swedish daily), Jan. 22, 2016]

In light of PMW findings that demonstrate the clear impediments to peace posed by the PA, MP Oscarsson stated that the opposition intends to force Foreign Minister Wallström to answer questions about Palestinian incitement:

"We must check where the funding that we send to the PA is going. We cannot support incitement to terror. We will call Foreign Minister Wallström to the plenum and force her to answer to the evidence of [Palestinian] incitement that we just saw."
[The Jerusalem Post, Jan. 22, 2016]

MP Oscarsson repeated PMW director Marcus' assessment that the Palestinian leadership sees Swedish Foreign Minister Wallström's recent remarks calling for an investigation of Israel's "extrajudicial killings of Palestinians" as Swedish support for continued Palestinian violence against Israelis, disguised as self-defense:

"Now the [Palestinian] acts of violence have intensified and [they] also use [Swedish Foreign Minister] Wallström's statements as a kind of support. It is very important that the [Swedish] government breaks with this image and shows that it is possible to consider this kind of information (i.e., the findings by Palestinian Media Watch), which is not an expression of opinion but only translation from the official Palestinian [TV] programs."

The following is an interview with Itamar Marcus and MP Mikael Oscarsson in the Swedish daily Världen Idag:

Headline: "Break with hatred and incitement against Israel"
By Eva Janzon

"'Instead of criticizing Israel for how to deal with the recent stabbing spree, Sweden should pay attention to the constant encouragement of terror from the Palestinian side,' says Itamar Marcus of Palestinian Media Watch, which examines the Palestinian Authority through its media and school books.
It is [Swedish] Foreign Minister Margot Wallström (S) who has made Itamar Marcus travel from Israel to Stockholm at short notice to meet with politicians and appear before churches and the Zionist Federation.
He and other Israelis see with indignation that [Swedish Foreign Minister] Margot Wallström called for an examination of whether extrajudicial killings has been used by Israel during the last few months of many acts of violence and knife attacks against Israelis.
'It does not really matter if she did not intend supporting those [Palestinians] who carry out these attacks, but what matters is how the Palestinians perceive what she said,' says Itamar Marcus.
'And they understand that her statement fits in with what is already being said by the PA top, namely that the world is ready to accept this kind of violence.'
Itamar Marcus has brought a long series of examples of statements on official PA television, which in different ways glorify and motivate the attacks of the recent months.
In particular, he highlights a statement dated Oct. 17, 2015 on the Palestinian Authority's official television channel by Jibril Rajoub, president of both the Palestinian Football Federation and the Olympic Committee, as well as Deputy Party Secretary of Fatah, which controls the West Bank.
Jibril Rajoub 'congratulates' those who have carried out knife attacks against Israelis, praising them as Martyrs, 'assets to the entire Palestinian people,' and even provides an explanation for the attacks:
'The international community does not agree to a bus exploding in Tel Aviv. But the international community does not ask for what happens to a settler or soldier in the occupied territories [who is there] at the wrong time and in the wrong place. No one asks about him! Therefore, we want to fight in such a way that the world and the international community will remain by our side.' [PA TV Oct. 17, 2015]
'It is quite unbelievable that no politicians have distanced themselves from Jibril Rajoub after this. He should be banned from Europe, as a sign of opposition to all the incitement to violence that constantly is coming from Palestinian sources,' says Itamar Marcus.
'But I am always told the same thing when I speak with parliamentarians from the European Parliament or from different countries in Europe: "It is horrible with this hate propaganda and incitement, but we have no choice but to cooperate with and support the Palestinian Authority so that it does not collapse."'
Itamar Marcus points out that many of the attacks against Israelis have been committed by teenagers, and sees a clear link to the enemy image of Israel and the Jews which for a long time has been allowed to spread through Palestinian children's television.
'The conclusion we must draw from recent months, when so many Palestinian teenagers have committed murder or attempted to commit murder, that [donor] money should not go to media that teach children to say that Jews are pigs and that Israel should be destroyed,' he says.
'And those who should deal with this is Europe, precisely because the Palestinian Authority needs Europe.'
Itamar Marcus was invited to [Swedish] Parliament by MP Mikael Oscarsson (KD). He has repeatedly urged the government to condition aid from Sweden to Palestine, in order to fight off the statements, including on TV, inciting to violence and hatred against Jews and Israel.
'The [Swedish] government has decided to double its aid to Palestine after the recognition [of Palestine as a state], but I think we cannot just continue to give money without taking this hate propaganda into account, he [MP Oscarsson] says to the Världen Idag.
'Now the acts of violence have intensified and [they] also use Wallström's statements as a kind of support. So it is very important that the [Swedish] government breaks with this image and shows that it is possible to consider this kind of information (i.e., the findings by Palestinian Media Watch), which is not an expression of opinion but only translation from the official Palestinian [TV] programs. If you look at Northern Ireland, it was only when they dealt with the hate propaganda in the textbooks that a real change towards peace took place.'"

This is nonsense and just another attack from the US led Islamophobic network that is funded by millions of US dollars - including Camera and a whole list of others. These groups tried to influence the UN against PRC and failed miserably and ended up being exposed themselves.

Otherwise tell me the schools and show me the books that do this.

Yep, had a meeting the the House of Commons the other day:

Houses of Commons Seminar on Poverty in Palestinian Refugee Camps

Parliament
School in Sweden Teaches Pupils Israel Doesn’t Exist Parliament
On the 25th of January, PRC held a seminar in the Houses of Commons, titled “Poverty in Palestinian Refugee Camps: Challenges and Prospects”. The meeting, hosted by MP Ben Bradshaw, focused on the adverse conditions Palestinian refugees  - particularly in Lebanon -  face living in camps due to high poverty rates and lack of state or proper UN support.

The event was chaired by Sara Apps, Interim Director at the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, introduced the event by highlighting the importance of the right of return for the “here and now” and not just for the future. With the recent refugee crisis, we have a new opportunity to speak about the stories of Palestinian refugees.

School in Sweden Teaches Pupils Israel Doesn’t Exist Palestinian_refugees__2

Sameh Habeeb, Head of Media and PR at the Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) presented the work of PRC explaining that the right of return is a fundamental political issue. Although international law is clear about the right of return, this goes largely ignored at the expenses of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees around the world. He also touched upon the recent cuts in funding of UNRWA and Israel’s interest in dismantling its services. He concluded that the old Zionist trope, “The old will die and the young will forget” cannot be true as more and more Palestinians around the world continue fighting for the right of return.

Rohan Talbot, Campaigns and Media Officer at Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), was next in line, and discussed the poor conditions and principal issues in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. Although each camp is unique, all suffer from overcrowding, environmental hazards and poverty, which cause huge health challenges, which UNRWA cannot cope with. People with disabilities struggle to access services and the cost of health care is devastating. Working directly with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, he reported case studies highlighting the restrictions imposed by the Lebanese government and the extra-marginalisation that they suffer because of it. Finally, he reminded that in the humanitarian discussions around refugees, we should always ask where the Palestinians are, as their multiple displacements are not covered by politicians and the media.

Pietro Stefanini, Researcher at the PRC, discussed his recently published report, “The Forgotten People: Assessing Poverty Among Palestinian Refugees”. His research addressed the socioeconomic conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon. Despite the lack of accurate statistical data due to a lack of systematic monitoring, the picture he provided is one of poverty, insecurity and need for a political solution. Two thirds of the Palestinian refugees in the camps in Lebanon are considered poor or extremely poor and unemployment has reached a historical high. One third of the populationdoes not meet the standards of nutrition and early school dropouts have increased. The policies of the Lebanese government discriminate against Palestinians with strict visa requirements that prevent them from integrating into the country. In closing, he affirmed that the right of return is not an obstacle to peace. It is simply non-negotiable as it is the basis for dignity and the right to rights.

Aimee Shalan, Director of Friends of Birzeit University, talked about the life in higher education for Palestinian refugees. Students in Gaza cannot access university in the West Bank, while Palestinian students from Syria fleeing to Lebanon struggle with the different syllabus. UNRWA schools suffer from stigma and continuous cuts in services. Access to higher education has become political as a way to counteract the Israeli occupation. In fact, literacy in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is one of the highest in the region.

School in Sweden Teaches Pupils Israel Doesn’t Exist Palestinian_refugees__3

Ben Bradshaw, Labour MP for Exeter, contributed to the seminar by reaffirming his commitment to the issues faced by the Palestinian refugees. He spoke about his first visit to Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan and encouraged the public to pressure their MPs to go on one of these visits. The danger is that the stories of Palestinians get lost. The issue of Palestinian refugees is the only way to bring peace to the Middle East.

The speeches were followed by a series of questions from members of the audience, which included representatives of organisations like Jews for Justice for Palestinians. The questions and answers remarked that the root cause of the problem of the Palestinian refugees is Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territories, but that the British government and the neglect of other Arab states also contribute to the issue.

PRC will re-launch the “Sorry Campaign” about the Balfour Declaration in February and will ask David Cameron to have lunch or dinner in a Palestinian refugee camp, instead of celebrating the day with the Jewish community. PRC invites all members of public to share the campaign.

I think I have been more than fair with you on this Didge and I have given you plenty of time to tell me the name of the schools and show me the books involved. I'm not expecting you to interropt your work to do so but if you can manage it later that would be appreciated.

I think I have been more than fair with you on this Didge and I have given you plenty of time to tell me the name of the schools and show me the books involved. I'm not expecting you to interropt your work to do so but if you can manage it later that would be appreciated.

Hasn't he given you his 'evidence' of what books yet?   Obviously can't produce them.

School in Sweden Teaches Pupils Israel Doesn’t Exist Empty Re: School in Sweden Teaches Pupils Israel Doesn’t Exist

Post by Guest Fri Feb 05, 2016 2:59 pm

Textbooks which have Israel erased from the map and glorify terrorism - up until recently I thought that this was limited to schools in undemocratic Middle Eastern countries that consider Israel an enemy state. Now, however, these textbooks have appeared in Swedish class rooms and they are part of an international Palestinian campaign.

My organization, Perspective on Israel (PPI), has obtained exclusive educational materials that constitute a part of this campaign: textbooks in Arabic and that have been distributed among school children in the city of Malmö, Sweden.

The Swedish pro-Palestinian NGO Palestinian Centre for Justice (PRC) recently began to educate children in one or more schools in Malmö. In November and December of last year the PRC initially posted on their Facebook site photos of their teaching sessions but later removed these after I wrote about their tuition on the website of the Israeli Embassy in Sweden, and after a journalist started to ask questions about this too.

What kind of organization is PRC? In 2006 the PRC arranged the 4th Palestinians in Europe Conference in Malmö. Among the speakers in this conference was the terrorist leader of Hamas in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, whom the PRC calls ”Prime Minister”. This year, the NGO will host this annual conference in Malmö again. The PRC has connections to the Swedish government. In June of last year, the PRC had a meeting with Margot Wallström, the heavily criticized foreign minister of Sweden. According to the PRC website, the vice chairman of the NGO discussed foreign policy with Ms Wallström in the course of this meeting.

The PRC recently posted on their Facebook page an image for an anti-Israel demonstration, which featured a Jewish Star of David made from barbed wire. This is a way of disseminating hatred not only against Israel but also hatred against Jews, and it is a demonization of ancient Jewish symbols. It is completely unacceptable that the Swedish foreign minister meets with such an NGO, and what the organization is teaching children is despicable.

During the PRC’s teaching sessions in Swedish classrooms the anti-Israel propaganda textbook ”To Palestine I belong” was handed out to children in at least one Swedish school in Malmö.

What then, does the textbook teach Arab and, in particular, Palestinian children in Sweden? Firstly, the textbook ”To Palestine I belong”, which is written entirely in Arabic, includes a map of what is claimed to be Palestine. However, this map includes not only PA territories but also Israeli territories and mentions Israeli cities like Haifa, Be’er Sheva and Yafo - not, however, Tel Aviv. In other words Israel has been removed from the map and replaced by a Palestinian state. Portions of the textbook recount the Muslim history of the land of Israel. Jewish connections to the land prior to the Balfour Declaration are not mentioned, however. Israel is only referred to as ”the Zionist enemy" or ”the occupation”.

After the British terminated the Palestine mandate, the textbook states, ”the occupation” took advantage of the political situation in the Arab world and began its ”dangerous plan” to destroy the Palestinian cause through continuous ”war crimes against the land, the people and the holy shrines.” The textbook also informs the Swedish pupils that ”the occupation” (Israel) has Judaization projects under way in Jerusalem that will erase the landmarks of the al Aqsa mosque. Israel is also accused of confiscating lands and not permitting people to work.

The most controversial part of the textbook states that the children of Palestine began an intifada. The children confronted the ”Zionist machines and soldiers with their bare chests”, it claims. This language echoes the words of Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri, who has stated in Palestinian media that it is a successful strategy for the people of Gaza to confront the occupation with bare chests. The textbook appears to be influenced by the Hamas ideology.

It then informs the children that the Palestinian resistance is still innovating and developing its tools and equipments, combining these to create an ”heroic saga” in Gaza. The Arabic word for ”tools” in this context also means ammunition, and heroic saga can be translated as ”an heroic epic battle”.

There is also a cartoon of a boy who is about to throw something at a tank. The text above the cartoon reads: ”Fares Odeh, brave child from Gaza, confronting the big tank with his small rock”. In addition, it mentions that he was killed in 2000 and became a martyr.

This is a brief introduction to what is an international campaign to keep the Palestinian identity according to the textbook ”To Palestine I belong”. What Perspective on Israel has uncovered is a Palestinian campaign of indoctrination of Arab children in Europe to feel hostility towards Israel. It is propaganda, the purpose of which apparently is to make Palestinian children, and Arab children in general, identify with the Palestinian struggle, the Palestinian terrorism. The textbook also exists as an easy to print PDF file. This means that it comes in a format that can easily be copied, printed and distributed to an unlimited number of readers. By now, it may well be spread in many European countries.

I wrote an open letter about the PRC's teaching to the city councillor Anders Rubin, who is the Social Democratic politician in charge of the schools in Malmö, but he responded that these kind of activities do not come under his jurisdiction. I also informed many other politicians in Malmö, but I only had a response from one party: the Sweden Democrats. Why are the remaining political parties silent?

The primary school director in Malmö, Anders Malmquist has confirmed that the photos of teaching sessions posted by PRC were shot in classrooms in Apelgårdsskolan, a municipal school in Malmö. So called ”Saturday School” activities have been arranged there and PRC’s teaching sessions and textbooks have been part of these activities.

Schools are meant to be places where children can obtain objective knowledge about the world, including Israel; not where they are taught to hate. Swedish politicians must ensure that children in Swedish classrooms are not indoctrinated to hate the world's only Jewish state.

I hope the politicians will act, as this Op-Ed will be shared by more and more people to create awareness, nationally and internationally, with respect to how Swedish children in Swedish classrooms are being taught to hate. Swedish politicians must show that they will not permit a message promoting support for terrorism to be taught in Swedish schools.

If this type of textbook continues to be used in Swedish schools the consequences will be devastating.

You don't have the info I asked for then? And lets face it Camera isn't the most reliable source given they were found to be editing Wiki with pro-Israeli propaganda.

They're also part of that US funded Islamicphobic network containing most of your favourites.

Game over then is it?

I'd like to check by looking into which schools are involved in this which is why I'm asking you for their names and for you to show me the books involved. If you can't then fine - game over.

Do you want me to ask?

But what is in the text books Didge - I want you to show me. The whole question needs to be answered not just part of it. And there are wider issues in that report that I'll probably challenge as well given the discredited source you are using so I'll come back on that later. They failed to influence the UN about accepting PRC as a legitimate concern.

You haven't come up with anything then Didge.

I've had a look around and it appears that this is all in Arabic and was about teaching young Palestinian children about their heritage and history. The map comcerned was a map relating to the history of Palestine from earlier times that predated before Tel Aviv even existed.

As I thought this is nothing more than propaganda from CAMERA who have been discredited in the past and who are linked in to the North Amercan RW Neocons who are funded with millions from the Islamophobic network which includes Memri, Camera, NGO Monitor - in fact most of your favourites are in there. They've been trying to discredit PRC and have absolutely failed.

There's a report on it from the University of Bath so I'll see if I can find it and post it up.
