Hahahah HA very good.
In answer to the OP, I'd call a family meeting, try talking and if that got nowhere....possibly report them.

I would gather up affidavits of relatives declaring him to be of unfit mind, go to court and have him declared incompetent, sell his house, and go to Vegas. Turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

Try to reason with him, and if that didn't work, have him committed.

Similar method in Islam itself for apostacy, they try to reason by offering them to repent and if they do not they are executed.
Their punishment is just harsher.
Peronally I would make them watch video after video of love songs, people being good to each other etc
Kindness and love can be a far more powerful tool

Re: Joining Isis
If it were my son?
well lets look at this
firstly if he was going to join isis he would have had to have converted to Islam.....
at that point he would have ceased to be my son
he would have been disowned and disinherited
so I would have no problem in denouncing him to the authorities
and YES Sassy.....I WOULD

Committing people to a mental institution often helps them turn their lives around -- it's not a punishment.

But its a false premise
Are you then saying anyone who believes in islam is mentally unbalanced?
I mean do not get me wrong I think its off the charts why people believe, but is it being clincially of a mental health issue, even if they follow extreme views?
What next, someone of racist views to the extent of Nazism?
What you are saying is you want to commit people of differening views to you?
Is that not what used to happen a few centuries ago Ben?

I'm sure you would. I on the other hand would never, under any circumstances, give up on my kids and would fight for their welfare to my dying breath. There is nothing they could do that would stop me loving them. They might do something I utterly despise and condemn, but that would not stop me loving them and trying to help get them back on track.

Not that ghastly track by Whitney Houston or the awful Titanic one though - that would drive them insane.

I think something more uplifting would do it - like Dancing on a Saturday Night or something.

Don't be ridiculous. You commit people when they pose a clear threat to themselves or others. Joining ISIS would be convincing evidence.

Agreed, I'd do it if it kept them safe and stopped them leaving to join. There is no trick I would not employ to stop that. And that would be entirely legitimate.

Re: Joining Isis
Years ago people used to join sects and turn against their families because they were brainwashed. Families used to employ people to kidnap them and 'deprogramme' them. I think that would be a very good idea in a case where someone was joining ISIS.

Really, you are saying to commit someone because they believe in ISIS
People were committed in the past for having a belief
You have to prove its climically insane to then emulate Muhammad, which would be basically the vast majority of Muslims, as they certainly believe many of the hadiths of his life, where he had slaves, sex slaves to his commanders, executed people etc. People do believe this is what Muhammad did, are you saying they should be committed?
Well if you can prove religious belief is an insanity, I might back you, but you have not got a hope in helll of committing someone based on having a belief

Aren't we all, but the ones you have to worry about are the ones that don't realise and think they know it all, and are convinced they are saving the world by jabbering on a forum lol
