Re: Shaker Aamer
Now he could end up being a role model for other Muslims for the right reasons to show extremism is wrong. Though I certainly think the Governemnt should do the right thing and compensate him anyway, as the man like anyone wrongfully imprisoned should be compensated and even more so due to the evidence pointing to him enduring torture.
Though money is hardly a substitute for years lost in life.
I disagree with his view that injustice breeds extremism, as injustice on its own, does not make countless people turn to extremism. Only hate does and it is a hate played on with naratives that then played off a claim to an injustice. For example foreign policy where British Muslims have no connection other than their faith to an event abroad, is not an injustice directly to that Muslim themselves. Yet a narative plays off this view and stance to claim an injustice which the Muslim wrongly feels.
For example the persecution and injusticed faced by many religious and ethnic groups in the Midldle east does not see any level of extremism or terrorism committed not only by the many people that suffer this persecution but by those with an association within the west through their ethnicity or religion. Take Christianity, as it is one of the most persecuted religions in the east and yet you do not see Christians in the west claim an injustice to commit to violence. If you do it is very rare. So it is false to claim it is only an injustice that leads people to extremism. It is and always will be naratives of hate. This is why I keep harping on about how the Muslim community has to tackle the naratives of hate, the constant naratives of blame, conspiracies etc.
