Are they basically required to collide with one another full-strength on nearly every play? Because in American football, they are. On every play, a minimum of a dozen people smack into one another, often as hard as possible. I'd shudder to see what happened in that without pads.

I believe colliding with someone not carrying the ball is "obstruction" in rugby, no?

I prefer my women to be women.

...very unfeminine and exploitation to an extent I would say, but when it is done out of free will then it's not harming nobody.

there is no 'plays' 4 quarters of 20 min, none of these pussy time outs you guys take (unless someone is seriously injured)

And we already know NFL is softer, I think it was the cowboys had organised to come over for a demo game against an AFL team one Game of each type, not only did we beat them at NFL (using very few timeouts) but once the NFL guys watched an AFL game not enough of them were willing to play to make a team.

I doubt one against an AFL team was official. Like I said the promoted 'watch the yanks play their game then our game' was never fulfilled.

LET'S not forget that an American (or Canadian rules footie, either..) "footballer" cannot keep up with an average Rugby Union, Rugby League, Ausssie Rules, Gaelic Football or Soccer player...

NOT because of anything to do with fitness or speed ~ but simply because of the sheer amount of extra padding and heavy body armour that the American Football players have to wear..           

BY comparison, minimalist body shields are an option for the other contact sports, not compulsory !

AS for the various women's "contact" sports ~ soccer, rugby, league, Aussie rules and hockey (grass and ice..) are all available to those goodsome lasses at collegiate, local, state and national competitions..  

And that's not even touching on the Martial arts : Boxing, Karate, Kung Fu, Ninjitsu, Tae-kwondo, Kempo, Wrestling, Aikido, even cage fighting ...   

Aussie wimmin folk have progressed a long way since it was only their cricket, soccer, the odd swimmer, and golf and tennis players representing us abroad !
