Ex-PM Abbott Brings shame and Embarrassment to everything
FORMER prime minister Tony Abbott has been accused of “embarrassing Australia” at prestigious gathering in London, where he urged European nations to turn back refugees fleeing the war torn Middle East.
Delivering the Margaret Thatcher lecture in London on Tuesday night, Mr Abbott warned of the “catastrophic error” Europe was making in its readiness to take in refugees from war-torn countries, offering his government’s tough boat-stopping strategy as an experience that “should be studied”.
Though the conservative crowd cheered the deposed leader, Abbott’s online audience hasn’t been so kind.
Greens Senator and asylum seeker advocate Sarah Hansen-Young was one of the first to distance herself from our former PM advocating anti-immigration message abroad.
“Tony Abbott still making a fool of himself and embarrassing Australia,” she wrote on Twitter.
“His obsession with pushing people in need away is beyond belief.”
http://www.news.com.au/finance/work/tony-abbott-embarrassing-australia-with-border-speech-at-margaret-thatcher-lecture/story-fn5tas5k-1227585164328
Mr Abbott’s uncharacteristic departure from his Christian values — namely, his criticism of other Western countries’ “love thy neighbour” approach to welcoming asylum seekers — has a;sp apparently angered Catholic priests.
A former Bishop told Fairfax he was astounded and appalled by Abbott’s use of Bible passages to preach such a “hard-hearted” approach to refugees.
“I’m ashamed that a former Australian PM would be putting out a message like this,” retired Bishop Pat Power said.
“People will make their own judgments but that’s completely at odds with what’s at the heart of Christianity. I’m certainly offended.”
In the interest of balance, news.com.au searched for, but struggled to find, praise of Mr Abbott’s speech in social media comments.
There was one positive comment from Melbourne-based Briton Antonia Mocham: “Only good thing about the Abbott speech is that no-one in Europe seems to have noticed it happened.”

He really is a nasty piece of work, so has all the qualities needed to stand with cameron and his mob at the next UK elections.

Excellent words by Mr.Abbot who recognizes the dangers of mass immigration in a short period of time. And that danger is increased when the bulk of the immigrants are dangerous Muslims.
Well said Mr.Abbot.

since swapping to Malcolm Turnbull the Liberal Party (RW) has surged over 20% in primary vote and Mal has a approval rating nearing 70%
Abbott was dropping under 30% and the party was going under 30% with his leadership too..
the Labor 'rusted on' voters are upset as labor has no chance now, where it was almost guaranteed if it was still running against Abbott

Abbott came here HIMSELF and didn't become a Aussie Citizen until he was 23 years old.
he was born in England
Which explains an awful lot
http://theaimn.com/why-did-tony-abbott-wait-until-he-was-almost-24-years-old-to-become-an-australian-citizen/
When Anthony John Abbott was born to an English father and a first-generation Australian mother at a general lying-in hospital in York Road, Lambeth, London, on 4 November 1957, his parents did not register him as an Australian infant born overseas or immediately apply for Australian citizenship on his behalf.
Presumably because at that time Richard and Fay Abbott thought they would be permanently living in England and raising a family there.
He therefore had only one official nationality status – as a British subject and citizen.
In fact it was not until over twenty years after the family had arrived in Australia as subsidised assisted migrants that Tony Abbott’s parents applied to register his birth with the Dept. of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and apply for his citizenship, in a document/s dated 19 June 1981.
This application appears to have been treated as urgent by departmental staff.

Abbott is a despicable little man and an immigrant to Australia himself who wants to pull the ladder up behind him to stop anymore coming to the country that took him in.
What a hypocrite.

Australia is very welcoming of immigrants who have desirable skills, and who will be productive, and who will be great assets to the country.

You're dead wrong, just look at what's happened with every wave of Australian immigration before -- they've molded a new Australian culture that is superior to the sum of its parts, and the country is rated the 10th happiest in the world. The U.S., another immigrant nation, is 15th, while the poor old UK is way down there at 21st ... but I don't think anybody would be surprised by that http://www.businessinsider.com/new-world-happiness-report-2015-2015-4

Hoe many times have people got to be told that Britain is a small ISLAND? We have approx. 65 million here, and that's just the ones we know about. Our Hospitals, GP surgeries, transport housing ect are grinding to a halt. It's all very well for those who live in large countries to say "you should take more" I would ask you to come and visit towns such as Bradford,City's like London and B,ham and many others witch are being swamped by immigrants.

Australia is huge and wants immigrants of the right sort... we are a tiny island and get too many immigrants and too many of those are also the wrong sort.

the Typical Suspects Whining incessantly
We do have a LOT more migrants, I was raised in a city which is more multicultural than anywhere in the UK.
AND Nicko maybe if the locals weren't ---- to them they would be converted in the UK too! as they are here and don't tell me they don't! My father will TELL you he is AUSTRALIAN over French!!! the guy from Hong Kong opposite me is PROUDLY Australian! same with the Irish-born guy... It is you lot that have you heads up you ass, do you really think being British is so undesirable that no one would want to become it? Tell me Nicko Why do you think British culture is unable to convert those that Australian culture does with ease?...(now we have had practice )
the only one of you I believe has any real exposure to migrants is Tommy.
Tommy may have a point about the 'type of migrant' but that also come down to the perception of how migrants will be treated. If you can afford to go anywhere you choose why would you choose the UK? (unless you had specific business interests there) Sydney has asked that question and made itself as appealing to rich entrepreneurial migrants, that it part of being competitive.
We all take some of the poor and downtrodden but the reason why UK migration is 0.6% and Australia's is 1.6% is because We also not only take but welcome them making us a 'first choice' destination globally for others for reason beyond health care and education etc... the UK is only a high choice in the EU and even then only on par France and Germany and many Scandinavian nations.
And if you really want to me to bring out the stats I can, in the past 40 years we have equaled and surpassed the British in every measurable of 'quality of life' index. Comparatively we have grown more in the past 20 years than the UK has in the past 60 years, in large part thanks to immigration.

Yes but then 90% of the world was scratching dirt
As other industrialized and raised their economies the UK and the rest of Europe sat on it's laurels and acted like the rest of the world will never get past scratching dirt...
Well.. they have..
China, India ,Korea so many nations have risen to be powerhouses in their own right.
Even the New world nations like Australia, New Zealand and Canada, Let alone the USA have all been growing at double and triple the rates of Europe.
Those factors are all bearing down of Europe now, it squandered it's lead and if it doesn't start moving forward with some pace soon it will be playing catch up. it is not migrants it is what i believe has been coined 'Greek disease' essentially it is the 'laziness created from resting on ones laurels for too long"

Re: Ex-PM Abbott Brings shame and Embarrassment to everything
do you think that things stay static
like if you don't change nothing else will and everything stays they same?
You were happier because you were stronger in relation to everyone else, that is not longer the case. because everyone else started growing at a faster rate.
Again the UK does not have mass migration, it Doesn't matter how many times you say it Tommy 0.6% is NOT mass migration. SO you can either start dealing with the UK's problems or you can do exactly what has got your nation into this mess and stick your head in the sands and whine while everyone else just keeps getting further and further in front. The fact that you guys go on like this low level of migration is some huge issue that "ohh the UK is so Hard done by it has to deal with a tiny issue" IS the real reason for the reduction in life quality in the UK. If you cant deal with a incredibly common issue at it's very lowest level of incident what hope do you have with competing openly once you are faced with the rest of the normal issues facing a non superpower nation. let alone if you lose the protection of the EU.
it's like you guys complain that you have eat, drink and breathe to stay alive..
I really don't know what you expect? the world to just let the UK sit there by itself pretending that no one else strives to be the best.. so the UK can keep dreaming of an era past when it was a superpower.
Sorry but that world no longer exists you have to compete and face the issues along with everyone else. that is part of staying alive and striving to be the best.
It's like many Brits don't understand 'this is a competition', the strongest nations get first preference. All of Asian and large swathes of the world have been working for decades to take the wealth that was once exclusive Europe. All people given a choice will choose the wealth and luxury that can only be afforded the STRONGEST nations. Every time the UK goes back a place that is another luxury it has to give up.

Veya, did you actually read my post? I don't think you did. You just went off on your usual racist rant against the Brits. There's no point in arguing with some one with a mind set like yours. Britain is a race. But you already know that; rather, you like the shock value of calling someone a racist.
Racism is disparagement and/or discrimination according to status/genetics. It hardly fits with Britain now, does it?

Anti-British...or anti-Franco, anti-American. The apt term is 'prejudice', but you see that is strictly an analytical term, so it doesn't have the contempt of racism.

If only you guys were more open minded & less prejudiced, you would have a better understanding of how other people feel & other life matters. Then, you would recognize your very narrow points of view.

Where have I heard that before? Emulation is one of the highest forms of praise. But here's another thing to consider: I have often said that one of the manifestations of conservative paucity of rational thought is their tendency to copy. Spend some time explaining your ideas rather than copying me.

Shady, until they come over here and see it for themselves they are just talking through their arses.
All they know is what they see on tv or read about in newspapers. How they can pretend to know the situation beats me. I Will just have to leave them thinking they know more than someone who actually lives here.

I've listened to what you're saying about "mass immigration" (a few 100 thousand per year, wow) and found that your arguments are complete BS -- most of your "tiny island" is not even occupied. BBC wrote:Put another way, that means almost 93% of the UK is not urban. But even that isn't the end of the story because urban is not the same as built on.
In urban England, for example, the researchers found that just over half the land (54%) in our towns and cities is greenspace - parks, allotments, sports pitches and so on.
Furthermore, domestic gardens account for another 18% of urban land use; rivers, canals, lakes and reservoirs an additional 6.6%.
Their conclusion?
In England, "78.6% of urban areas is designated as natural rather than built". Since urban only covers a tenth of the country, this means that the proportion of England's landscape which is built on is…
… 2.27%.

There's no point in arguing with some one with a mind set like yours. Until you and others of your ilk come here and see what it's like, stop pontificating about what you think it's like.
YOU DO NOT HAVE A POINT!!!!
get it through you head
UK IS NOT A MAGIC UNIQUE SNOWFLAKE
the UK does NOT have many migrants, it has an average rate of migration, it is NOT highly populated
Simply they are the FACTS based on ACTUAL NUMBERS
You have NO CLUE about Migrants I can TELL you that 100% positive Because I AM FROM A MIGRANT FAMILY I am FIRST GENERATION AUSTRALIAN! you have NO Idea how migrants think SO pull your head out of your arse! The only reason why a first gen wont love their home is because they have been exposed to too many ---- like you. Things change, the world you grew up in SHOULD NOT EXIST ANYMORE! if the UK was the Same as it was in the 90's you have done something WRONG! I am 32 and the world I grew up in doesn't exist anymore, so how Little change goes on in the UK that an old man like you could even think things are the same decade to decade? in the past 20 years alone Sydney has expanded 20km in every direction but the ocean AND gone 10 stories up.
THIS IS LIFE

All they know is what they see on tv or read about in newspapers. How they can pretend to know the situation beats me. I Will just have to leave them thinking they know more than someone who actually lives here.
3 members of my Immediate Family have been there in the past 2 years
My brother worked in London for 6 months.
maybe if you pulled your head out of your ass you'd see the UK's issues ARE TINY and minuscule the fact you complain about having them at all is pathetic, the fact you make out like you cant deal with them is beyond pathetic.
Honestly I was joking I have never had any Actual issues with British People until Dealing with the posters on this site Particularly you. you make the Stereotype of a whinging useless Brits seem generous. I have no idea how any nation could have develop such and utterly incompetent, negative, pessimistic, cowardly culture. It must be new? it must be post empire.. Cause there is no way anyone could win an empire with the attitude Britain projects now.

That's because you, like Veya suffer from big country syndrome.Which means that you don't understand what we are saying about mass immigration..........plus you are left wingers which makes you incapable of rational thought & reasoning.
If only you guys were more open minded & less prejudiced, you would have a better understanding of how other people feel & other life matters. Then, you would recognize your very narrow points of view.
AND IF as Shady says we are suppose be thinking about How "people feel' well OK the feelings of fear and need for a new home of the Syrians clearly exceeds the fears of the British people about having to deal with the reality that life changes peoples move and things are not static.

I'm saying that The immigrants have vast amounts of land in their own countries compared to us here... they should stay there and build on it first before trying to argue that we have to concrete over ours to accommodate them.

Of course they are choosing to come here, the benefits here and in Germany are like magnets.
You see, I said you know nothing about what's going on, and that statement proves it!

Re: Ex-PM Abbott Brings shame and Embarrassment to everything
We have the same level of benefits so does New Zealand
Shows you know nothing about anywhere else
BUT The ones with a 'choice' Don't need or want benefits they can Buy the best houses in London So your statement re-enforces my statement.
You have No clue the about of amount of money coming out of the rising nations, those with a choice have millions in US dollars AND they want to keep it theirs and they all come from.... surprise.... ex-communist nations thus it is in their personal interest to find 'safe' nations.
If you can't attract them then YES you will struggle to pay for the rest... but here to catch, and the hong kongese Aussies openly say it and joke about the mainland Chinese doing it now (that mainly left in the 90's before china took it back.. out of the same concern) they want to move some where they can see similar foreigners being treated nice (the Chinese don't give shit about the Indians and vice versa) we are real nice to both
And the US might not like it but even Cameron was sucking up to China for very fiscal reasons
Honestly I am not Anti British just a lot of British people here have rather antiquated ideas and I am blunt.
I think a lot of it come down to the fact you were once so powerful, i still find it rather surprising that you lot still find it so hard to accept that you are not anymore, i mean the USA the one that over took you wont even be top dog for that much longer.
Power changes hands it has done through out history, it wont stop just because the west currently holds it.
I like this quote and sort of sums up my point, since the quote is over 2000 years old
"More people worship the rising than the setting sun"
Pompey The Great

Don't you ever stop putting Britain down? Nearly every post you make contains some line like, "you don't have an empire any more" "your country is crap"
Your country is living in the past"
It goes over my head now sonny jim, I think your just jealous of our illustrious history. Never mind, I can live with it.

Australia is a huge continent with a tiny population and needs many more skilled and productive workers to come... UK is a tiny island with huge population and already have too many immigrants arriving as we have done for decades... most of these are unskilled and unwanted.

Your "illustrious history" is over, partner. It exists in books, not on the streets. Britain is doing just fine, but it's because of what is happening today, not the past.
We all can luxuriate in British history, just as we can in Russian history. All we have to do is read G. M. Trevelyan, or Nicholas V. Riasanovsky. History belongs to everyone.
Anything else you got?
