On Tuesday the government will announce plans to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Jutland next year.

The battle, fought on 31 May 1916 between the Royal Navy's Grand Fleet, based at Scapa Flow in Orkney, and the German High Seas Fleet, was the biggest naval engagement of World War One.

The naval cemetery at Lyness, next to Scapa Flow, will be one of the main venues for the commemoration.

The BBC brought together two men with family links to the battle.

Graham Hobbs is head gardener for Scotland at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission: his grandfather was a boy signaller at Jutland.

Nick Jellicoe's grandfather, Admiral Sir John Jellicoe, was the British fleet commander.

Nick Higham reports.

I've actually been to Lyness but it was a long time ago. It's a cold and hostile environment in the winter months and back then there were still remains of the salavge from the ships that were lost or were undergoing rework. The size of the machinary used on these veseels was mind-boggling.

It was sad to see the number of headstones laid out and so sad that so many boy sailors lost their lives. The casualties of war.
