GM is building self-driving Chevy Volts for its employees to test
GM wants to get in the self-driving car too. The Detroit-based company has announced that next year it will build a fleet of autonomous 2017 Chevrolet Volts and deploy them at its Warren Technical Center campus. The idea is to build a real world "rapid-development lab" using GM employees as guinea pigs. They will be able, thanks to a smartphone app, to call one of the self-driving Volts and have it drop them off somewhere and then go back to park themselves, or pick up someone else. The data gathered from this program is intended to help accelerate the company's efforts in competing in the field with Google, Tesla, maybe Apple, etc.

I've been thinking about how convenient this would be when I walk my dog and we end up three miles from home

Cannot understand why anyone would want a car that drives itself, I like to be in control of something that's moving. What happens when a quick touch of the gas is the only way to get out of trouble? can the computer see this? I bet there's lots more situations when a driver has got to be in control. Can anyone think of them?

the key is all the cars being automated since the cars can talk to each other. the idea is they would all adjust to prevent collision.
and Yes they could see it, 360 degree vision +Night vision +Heat vision +Distance sensors etc.
it is a while off yet mainly due to cost.
